Wikileaks: Saudis, Gulf States Big Funders of Terror Groups

Despite its ostensible position as one of the West's key allies in fighting Islamic terror, it turns out, via Wikileaks, that Saudi Arabia is the source of the lion's share of funding for the world's worst terror groups – including Al Qaeda, the Taliban, Lashkar-e-Taiba, Hamas, and others.

Much of the rest of the money these organizations get comes from other Gulf states, including Qatar and Kuwait. Saudi Arabia, along with other Gulf states, has expressed very little interest in changing the situation.

The information came to light in the latest round of documents released Sunday by Wikileaks. In their communiques to the State Department, U.S. embassies in Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states describe a situation in which wealthy private donors, often openly, lavishly support the same groups against whom Saudi Arabia claims to be fighting.

In a summary assessment dated December 30, 2009, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton writes, “Donors in Saudi Arabia constitute the most significant source of funding to Sunni terrorist groups worldwide. Saudi Arabia remains a critical financial support base for Al-Qaeda, the Taliban, LeT (Lashkar-e-Taiba), and other terrorist groups, including Hamas, which probably raise millions of dollars annually from Saudi sources.” Much of the money is collected from Muslim pilgrims who come during the annual Ramadan pilgrimages, the memo said.

If this is the case why is the Man Child Obummer still bowing to the Saudi's. Where is our sense of reality for fighting the war on terror. If Hillary made this comment in 2009 she should resign her position of Secretary of State.

With the Saudis being state sponsors of terrorism, permitting zero religious tolerance for non-Islamic faiths, and a death penalty for any non-muslim who'd dare enter their segregated muslims-only cities, can someone point me to an nation that exemplifies "moderate" Islam?

How about "liberal" or "reform" Islam?

Oh I get bashed here because the Saudis and Saudi Inc. are major shareholders in Fox, Disney/ABC, TW/CNN plus they have tens of billions in deals with GE (MSNBC, CNBC, NBC, Universal), deals with Viacom/CBS and Bloomberg.

What a minute - this is confusing..

Al Qaeda? the Taliban?? Saudi-sponsored? Aren't the aforementioned terror groups the reason we're supposedly in Afghanistan and Iraq in the first place?

If this report is true, it's devastating to both administrations of GW and the Kenyan. Why shouldn't the Saudis have been considered on the "Evil-Doers" list as THE primary source of destabilizing the region?

By What Saudi Acts is the Regime Distinguished from Al Qaeda?

Protestations to the contrary, I know of no actions by the Saudi regime that would lead me to conclude that the Saudi regime is not the active controller of Al Qaeda.

I have tremendous respect for Mr. Pipes, and perhaps he or someone else can reference the Saudi actions that make them an ally on the war on terror and distinguish them from Al Qaeda.

Barring that explanation, I presume that Saudi funding, leadership, ideology, schooling, and personnel are evidence that Al Qaeda is a Saudi controlled secret military force.

Please show me with Saudi actions why that presumption is wrong.

Yep! At one time, it was estimated that, at then current usage levels, we had a 1,000 year supply of natural gas just under the Gulf of Mexico.

Why we haven’t converted the bulk of our surface mobile use systems to much cleaner burning NG (cars, trucks, busses, etc.) has much to do with the oil companies fighting the development of refueling infrastructure. We’ve been running fork trucks and other in-plant machines on LP and NG for decades.

Instead, we’re BURNING OUR FOOD (CORN) IN OUR VEHICLES! What’s THAT all about? Hummm. Unless — unless — that meets TWO of the One-Worlders’ goals: Less food, more starvation, FEWER PEOPLE on THEIR planet and MORE CONTROL of those who survive.
