This gives new meaning to the term steaming cup of joe.
The Bean Stop in Eau Claire Market is set to start serving Kopi Luwak better known as cat poop coffee on Tuesday, one of the most unique blends available anywhere on the planet.
This will appeal to two groups of people, said owner Ken Cutler.
Coffee connoisseurs and theres probably a group of people who will have a cup just say they had a cup.
Its such an unusual, odd and unique product.
Produced in the Doi Chaang region of northern Thailand, Kopi Luwak is made when the common palm civet a small, tree-dweller Cutler said is closer to a raccoon than a cat eats coffee cherries.
Once passed through the animals digestive system, workers pick the seeds out by hand and they are processed.
The end result is what Cutler describes as one of the most unique blends of java you can find.
Its very smooth, he said.
Its got both a fruity and an earthiness, its almost got a natural sweetness to it which is very unusual. And this kind of coffee doesnt come cheap.

“Sumatra” is the coffee type, expresso is the grind that I use, extremely fine, but not quite Turkish grind. Italian roast is less bold than the French roast. Starbucks sells an expresso roast whole bean coffee, I’ve never tried it. I like their French roast, too, and bought it until I tasted the Sumatra. If you didn’t like the Sumatra, because it is too bold, I can see where the Italian roast might be more to your taste. Jeez, I sound like an obsessive coffee nerd. I’m not, I’m really not....
I’d like to try it! Of course, I’ve also tried Sea Cucumber, which was like eating warm Vaseline.
Is that the slimy-looking stuff that Anthony Bourdain is always drooling over?
I have SIX litter boxes here.
I am the chief bottle-washer and cat turd miner around here.
NO WAY am I going to eat anything that's already been through a cat.
Just. Not. Gonna. Go. There.
Could be. Haven’t seen Tony in a while. But, it is like eating warm slime. Doesn’t taste bad, just an unpleasant texture to the Western palate.
We eat Jello!
Two Words:
Hook Worm
If forced to consume scat, cat scat would be the last I'd choose.
That stuff is nasty even by poop stds.
No, thanks. I still haven’t worked up the nerve to try the Pu-Pu platter.
I ain’t drinkin’ that shit.
“We eat Jello!”
Believe me LL! Sea Cucumber ain’t remotely like Jello! Get some petroleum jelly, heat it in the microwave, and let me know if it makes you think of Jello!8^)
[Carter hands Edward an article about Kopi Luwak, Edward's favorite coffee]
Carter Chambers: Read it.
Edward Cole: [reading] Kopi Luwak is the world's most expensive coffee. Though for some, it falls under the category of "too good to be true." In the Sumatran village, where the beans are grown, lives a breed of wild tree cat. These cats eat the beans, digest them and then... defecate. [pauses]
Edward Cole: The villagers then collect and process the stools. It is the combination of the beans and the gastric juices of the tree cat that give Kopi Luwac...
[Carter starts laughing]
Edward Cole: ...its unique flavor... and aroma. You're shitting me!
Carter Chambers: [laughing] Cats beat me to it!
I’d try it also. Have you ever had slugs? In northern Japan I’ve found them in a number of restaurants.
I have not had slugs. But I love the small black snails served in good Chinese restaurants! You use a toothpick to pry open the “door” to the shell, and then pull the small snail out with the toothpick. Sometimes served in black bean garlic sauce. A taste treat! Just don’t eat the end with the poop in it!
Other favorites; Beef neck tendon, chicken feet, thinly sliced pig’s ears.
These are just the regular slugs that crawl around on your sidewalk in the morning or eat your plants. I did once, but not again.
No problem with that stuff. I got the feet by pointing at the wrong picture though. Not much to them.
The slugs sound like they’re similar to the sea cucumber.

“I got the feet by pointing at the wrong picture though.”
The feet are just loaded with stuff that’s good for your joints and skin. Chondroitin(sp?), etc.. I didn’t like the duck’s feet though. Always get the tripe when going for Dim Sum!
