Don Meredith, the Dallas Cowboys and SMU quarterback and Monday Night Football icon, died Sunday evening in Santa Fe, N.M. He was 72.
Meredith died at Christus St. Vincent Regional Medical Center, a hospital spokesman confirmed this morning. The Meredith family's attorney, Lisa Fine Moses, said his wife, Susan, and daughter Mary were at his side.

He was great on King of the Hill.
Dandy Don....when Monday Night Football was truly a national EVENT! RIP.
I always liked Dandy Don! May he rest in peace!
I liked it when he did MNF. It has gone downhill since.
¨Police Story¨
RIP Don Meredith.
newfreep: Meredith and Cosell were the best MNF/SNF team - no one else comes close!
Yes! and Yes!
Prayers out to Dandy Don's family.....and thanks, Don
RIP.
After the camera had lingered on a beautiful young woman doing something fairly gross...
“Well, she was almost perfect.”
I was watching that night.
I especially enjoyed the way he liked to needle Howard (the mouth) Cossel.
during the ICE BOWL Don lacerated his kidney and was bleedin internally but finished the game
Dandy Don was the best Monday Night Football ever had when he was paired up with Howard Cosell. I loved listening to those guys!!!
I can just hear Don signing “Turn Out the Lights the Party is Over”. We will turn the lights out for you Don, we had a great time, and we will miss you. RIP my friend!
Rest in peace, Don.
Thanks for the memories........................
I'm sorry, I never appreciated Howard Cosell. He was more fun as foil for Dandy Don and Frank Gifford. Don used to tease him mercilessly, which was a great mercy for the audience. Cosell was only barely tolerable as a football commentator, a disaster as a baseball commentator. I have to agree the most unforgettable moment on MNF was Cosell's "Look at that monkey run!"
Cosell wrote a very petty and nasty memoir after ABC showed him the door. (I actually bought TV Guide to read condensed exerpts.) He was completely lacking in grace, class or gratitude, unlike Don and Frank.
'Dandy' Don had a great sense of humor ... he and Howard Cosell matched up well on MNF.
(And yeah, Lipton is a seriously underrated tea by tea snobs. There's a reason it sells so much.)
I really liked him, brought a sense of humor to a broadcast. He is missed. Prayers for his family on their loss.
Howard played the ‘straight man’ on MNF to Don Meredith without even knowing it.
