The coalition that got Barack Obama elected President just two years ago has been shattered. Gaming out the trajectory of the next two years can be done any number of ways, but Obama's efforts to rebuild a politically robust alliance will be the most telling. It may be the biggest challenge of his career and he will need happenstance along with skill if he is going to get it done.
A survey of the political landscape shows that many groups who were part of the 2008-09 Obama coalition have turned on him. Liberals believe he is an overcompromising wimp. (See blistering recent columns by progressive icons Paul Krugman and Frank Rich of the New York Times for a taste of what the left thinks of "their" President now.) The business community considers Obama ignorant about markets at best, a socialist at worst (O.K., some business people entertain an even harsher assessment). The media, after aiding and abetting his ride to the White House, now see the President as incompetent and overwhelmed. The independents and Republicans who backed him for office currently feel he is too liberal and too weak to do the job. These trends are all worse in Washington and among opinion leaders than they are in the country at large, but the views of elites are clearly shaping how the President is perceived by the nation in general. When TIME Magazine blisters the One, its funny. Obama was a media creation - he was their candidate and President. Live by the media, die by the media.
The media, after aiding and abetting his ride to the White House, now see the President as incompetent and overwhelmed.
They did a good job of fooling the public. And now the Emperor Has No Clothes. I don’t see Obama coming back because he’s now a known quantity. He has a record or rather a lack of one and that’s more difficult to market than soaring platitudes and empty promises.
ANd...campaigning will be the only thing the O will be focusing on for the next two years. He is so narcissistic he can’t attend to anything but himself.
i would love to read the analysis of his ‘presidency’ written 20 years from now.
The poor guy is so inadequate while being the worst thing to hit the liberals in 100 years.
Jimmy Carter is secretly laughing, now that he's only the second worst President ever.
that is a blistering comment.
is Halperin a token semi conservative????
They saw in him what they wanted to see. The crowds are gone and the bloom has worn off. Its hard to see what this guy will do for an encore.
The media, after aiding and abetting his ride to the White House, now see the President as incompetent and overwhelmed...
I LOL'd.
There goes the Great Liberal Hope who would unite America. What happened?
Halperin should be embarrassed to be spouting such nonsense (but don't count on it).
The 'elites' have been exposed as credulous fools who had to be led by the nose to see what had been obvious to so many of us for so long...

I believe 0b0z0 won’t be running for reelection and the disappointed Communist Media knows it!
The Media can force him out NOW if they want to, simply by “threatening” to investigate him, his education records, SS numbers and the biggest of all, his eligibility.
All you have to do to make a liberal cringe now is say: “Hopey/Changey”.
What has been “seen” cannot be “unseen”.
FUBO!
The Republicans would have to start fighting amongst themselves and put forward an even worse candidate to the American people. In short, he would have to have his election handed to him by his opposition to have a chance.
I’m afraid they will.
Absolutely NOTHING proposed by Obamao is going to improve America’s economy or our national security.
Babbling about luck, etc. is an exercise is futility. Might as well put dream catchers in every msm hack’s office.
