I would assume that he has it set up so that if anything happens to him, blah blah blah. The info will come out regardless, once he has it. Might as well send a message.

If Assange has information about the BP disaster, there almost certainly has to be another leak other than Manning given the timing of events. I'm not sure anyone has said this, at least not publicly.

Or it could have to do with the Lockerbie bomber deal.

"Or it could have to do with the Lockerbie bomber deal. "

That's true. He doesn't say it has to do with the BP oil disaster, just that it has to do with BP.

Actually, that could end up being worse for Obama. If those cables indicate that we knew through diplomatic channels the reason the Lockerbie bomber was being released (to sate BP's business needs in Libya), then Obama has some 'splaining to do to.

I hope they have a lot of luck with that, It is the front page of the New York Times and Fox news. The info is compromised and is no longer classified. The horse long past the barn door considering the wikileaks papers made it out to bittorrent sites that are hosted in Foreign countries like the Pirate Bay.

FWIW, from what I read in the Scottish Parliament's docs, it looks as though we were hand in glove with the Brits. If Assange's docs do have anything to do with the Lockerbie deal, my suspicion is they'd relate to the deal's price tag since we clearly knew what was going on all along.

Isn’t corporate espionage illegal? I wonder what rights a corporation and their stockholders have against Wikileaks and their donors/leadership. Discovery would be one thing and that could be damaging to Wikileaks

Classified is still classified even if it is ‘leaked’. So anyone with a security clearance that views this stuff without need to know and the proper clearance has broken the law. If caught, they can/will lose their clearance and could be prosecuted.

A cleared person can read about it in the papers, but to go to WikiLeaks or one of their associated sites would be a no-no.

I do not understand the hatred for this guy. This guy is releasing information show how corrupt our government is. And the supposed “conservatives” around here want him murdered to protect Obama.

Amazing. You people are just amazing.

The material is still classified, so for the military at least it doesn’t matter where they view it. It would be equivalent to finding a “secret” folder on the sidewalk and deciding to take a peek. If you’re military and you don’t have permission to view material intentionally doing so is breaking the rules.

Afghan informants’ names, CIA agents’ names in the field. Real stuff. Real people who could die. Russia and China and the US will have this decrypted within a week.

I think most of this COMES from the current administration.

Didn’t happen under Bush.

How about the cables showing the US was trying to buy off support for Copenhagen?

Our government was trying to use wealth they stole from us to saddle us with more environmental regulation and taxes, strengthening unelected unaccountable global government bureaucrats who wanted to get rich off the global warming scam.

Government is evil. This guy is doing us a favor by exposing the evil that government does.

This guy is doing the job the American press refuses to do.
