Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said that Republicans "made some pretty poor choices" in choosing their Senate candidates this fall.
Graham, in a Senate floor speech on Saturday, made an aside comment underscoring the frustration the GOP faced after some Tea Party-aligned nominees fell short in their campaigns.
"The House had a dramatic election. We picked up seats in the Senate," Graham said, video of which is posted by C-SPAN. "Some of us thought, maybe we could pick up two or three more, but we made some pretty poor choices when it came to candidates."
The South Carolina Republican made the comment as an aside to remarks about the consequences facing lawmakers who vote to allow an increase in taxes. Senate Democrats fell short of the necessary votes in a rare Saturday vote that would have allowed taxes go up on top earners.
Still, Republicans bargaining position in those votes and in legislative fights next year might have been strengthened had the party's nominees performed better in Senate races.
Many of the Tea Party favorites who won GOP primaries went onto disappointing finishes in the general election, some in races where Republicans needed to win if they were to have any hope of reclaiming a Senate majority. Those losing candidates included Christine O'Donnell in Delaware, Ken Buck in Colorado, and particularly Sharron Angle in Nevada, where Republicans had hoped to knock off Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.).
Graham is seen as a possible incumbent who might face a primary from a Tea Party type when he's up for reelection in South Carolina in 2014.
“Kick the RINO bastard OUT!”
Along with the other RINO’s! We want our country back and the freedoms we used to enjoy and/or took for granted.
O’Donnell and Miller were not good candidates. Sharon Angle was and aquitted herself quite well in the campaign and debate. Such is life.
I have to disagree with you and Senator Graham.
The candidates were elected by the people in those states in legitimate primaries, and it was the GOP-E that let them down, right along with the Beltway pundits who managed to nationalize the campaigns while bashing the candidates and the TEA Party.
Sharron Angle was a fine conservative candidate and she wiped the floor with Reid in their debate, but union thugs and fraud came through for Reid on election day.
Notice there was no mention of Joe Miller in Alaska? That seat should have gone to him in a breeze, but there again, the GOP-E failed him, when it didn't rein-in the loser Murkowski in the legitimate GOP primary.
Voters and the GOP-E had better get a grip and smarten-up because 2012 is our last chance to save and resotre our Republic and we're not going to be able to do it with RINOS, moderates or democrats.
LOL. No thank you.
My theory is that he is either a eunuch or misogynist.
Very good possibilites.
AND YOU AIN'T JUST WHISTLIN' DIXIE!!!!
And the thing is, he comes from a modest and challenging background. His folks died, he raised his sister and belonged to a small-town law firm in Seneca, South Carolina. He served in the military in the military courts.
Not much family, but you'd think he was a Kennedy or a Bush from the airs he puts on.
“Graham: GOP ‘made some pretty poor choices’ for Senate candidates this fall “
I agree. They voted for McCain in the primary.
Very appropriate! You betcha!
Actually, the poorest choice was from the SC voters in the previous election. He should have been taken out right then! I seriously doubt he’ll succeed “next” time ... the Tea Party has him in their sites!
And how many other states or commonwealths have even a half of a DeMint?
Graham used his GOP elite RINO buddies to make sure there would be no primary challenger and the Dems ran a REAL loser against him.
There was no Tea Party then.
We try to tell him to STFU but he doesn't care what his constituents say—but things have changed and we WILL primary his fairy fanny out of power come 2014.
“..he comes from a modest and challenging background. ..”
Maybe so. But you’d never know it.
“...but you’d think he was a Kennedy or a Bush from the airs he puts on...”
All I know is he needs to have the electorate’s collective boot planted firmly and seiftly in his ass come next election cycle.
Hopefully, the people of SC come to their senses and throw him to the gutter, and put a good Southern conservative in that seat.
The RINO purge needs to continue.
What I’d also like to see is a Commie purge from the Democrat party as well - maybe get them back to being a loyal American oppositionpolitical party. I know, I know...wont happen in my lifetime, but it would be nice. They’re too far gone for that.

Not after he voted for the 2 PRO CHOICE SC JUDGES
Those votes are two of a myriad of reasons the corrupt bastard will be primaried out of office!!!
Graham won’t like the GOP choice of primary rival for his seat either.
The graham is cracker.
but we made some pretty poor choices when it came to candidates.”>>>>>>>>>>>>>
There is no “we” about it. The people chose those candidates and will again, whether this village idiot Graham approves or not.
Agreed
