Written by Karl Burkart Theres no doubt United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change delegates are feeling a great deal of pressure to make some tangible progress here at the COP16 climate conference in Cancun.
But that pressure may be ratcheted up a notch after the Dec. 3 release of the Climate Vulnerability Monitor, the first definitive study of the impacts of climate change on human health. The report was prepared by DARA, a leading humanitarian research organization in conjunction with the CVF (Climate Vulnerable Forum) an alliance of 11 nations* that are experiencing the most direct impacts of climate change.....
Not surprisingly, most of those impacted will be children and women in the poorest parts of the world. The data charts provided in the report reveal a tragic irony the countries that pollute the most are affected the least....
Africa starts out worse, and gets far worse with mortality doubling while habitat and economic losses quadruple. DARA director Ross Mountain tries to put these findings in perspective: If we let pressures more than triple, or worse, no amount of humanitarian assistance or development aid is going to stem the suffering and devastation. Highly fragile countries will become graveyards over which we pour billions of dollars....
The report, though sobering, does end on a brighter note with 50 measures that governments can begin implementing right now to stave off the worst impacts predicted by the Climate Vulnerability Monitor.
The 11 nations are Bangladesh, Barbados, Bhutan, Kiribati, Ghana, Kenya, Nepal, Rwanda, Tanzania, Vietnam and Maldives. Karl Burkart blogs for the Mother Nature Network.

Climate change has been so bad in the last century that nearly everyone who was alive in 1900 is DEAD!
Hell, Pelosi’s breath could kill that many!!
And hurry up and send 10,000 body bags down to the Big Easy!
isnt the death rate 100 percent anyways? so they can blame it on something
Not less humans - but more tax money
When I took accounting, “statistically significant” was a measure of 5%. But with inflation and all, and the new normal invented by PC, maybe that’s changed (upwards)
Any natural disaster or example of extreme weather - even extreme cold - will be attributed to global warming, as well as deaths from various diseases. That’s the only way they can get to that figure.
The living will envy the dead?
I was walking around the financial district in San Francisco when I came across a young lady trying to get people to sign something against global warming. When she approached me, I ignored her and kept walking. She yelled after me, “So you don’t care about the millions of people who will die from global warming?”
Actually, what I don’t care about are made up statistics.
Yes all of those nations are bastions of freedom and have excellent leaders, no starvation, no crime or poverty. We should listen to their expertise on causes of death.
Steve, the 5 million is a very low estimate. I estimate that 100 million people will die over the next few years. Many will have been bored to death by environmentalists.
Know thy enemy.
I thought the greenies wanted more human death.
5 million doesn’t come close to touching the deaths from malaria since DDT was banned.
Archie Bunker!
Yup! Archie Bunker to Gloria on being told : “Daddy 10,000 people a year are killed by hand guns!!. Archie: “Well little girl, would ya’ feel any better if they wuz pushed outta windows?’’
When I saw that name I was reminded of the homeless guy I would listen to talking to himself on the payphone by the bus stop in Arlington, VA. He would always get to a certain point in the conversation and say "Honey, we're going to Barbados!"
I need to find him so I can warn him.
A chapter in a PJ O Rourke book, think it was All The Trouble IN The World...
The quickest way to save people from dying in the world, is to hydrate folks. Gatoraide would save 10s of millions of lives per year. His point was, that it isn’t about saving lives, it’s more about feeling good/money extortion.
Whether it is second hand smoke, or global warming deaths, it just takes a creative way of classifying a persons death, to make your liberal stupid agenda a “reality”.
There are forums that consider themselves scientific where they say everyone will die, then proceed to invent some probabilities of that happening. Even though they are small, they take pleasure in pointing out how much larger their made-up probabilities are than super volcano, asteroid impacts, etc.
