If you think there is no religious aspect to the environmental movement, think again.
Christiana Figueres, executive secretary of the U.N. Framework Convention on Climate Change and a native of Costa Rica, opened the summit with an invokation to the ancient Mayan jaguar goddess Ixchel, saying that Ixchel was:
"the goddess of reason, creativity and weaving. May she inspire you -- because today, you are gathered in Cancun to weave together the elements of a solid response to climate change, using both reason and creativity as your tools."
According to Figueres, Ixchel is also a Mayan moon goddess.
Wikipedia says Ixchel is also referred to as the goddess of making children", and the "goddess of medicine."
The Washington Post said that Figueres started her greeting in Spanish before switching to English:
"Excellencies, the goddess Ixchel would probably tell you that a tapestry is the result of the skilful interlacing of many threads...I am convinced that 20 years from now, we will admire the policy tapestry that you have woven together and think back fondly to Cancun and the inspiration of Ixchel."
193 countries are represented at the two-week meeting.
Earlier, a global warming scientist said rationing and 20 years of zero economic growth were necessary to stem the affects of climate change.

Well, there are a bunch of bloggers there “covering” this.
They like weaving.
What, Gaia wasn’t available?

Kiss my azz.
Global Warming does not apply to Christians.
Weren’t the Mayans the ones who would cut out the beating heart of their human sacrifices?
“...weave together the elements of a solid response to climate change, using both reason and creativity as your tools.”
A coat......I either wear it or not.....depending on the temperature.....
Are we done yet?
They are out of their flipping minds.
LOL. Ixchel may have been the goddess of “reason, creativity and weaving” but I wonder if this dope realizes that the Mayans still made blood sacrifices to her. Quick—someone haul Christiana up to the alter and cut her heart out and maybe Ixchel will stop Global Warming for us!
“According to Figueres, Ixchel is also a Mayan moon goddess. “
Does that mean Ax-shall is Allah’s wife, or just Allah in drag?
saying that Ixchel was:”the goddess of reason, creativity and weaving. “
... then they stripped a young man on the altar, opened his chest and took his beating heart out and ate it.
Would Ixchel be the one (or one of the ones) the Mayans offered human sacrifice to? If so, this is at least appropriate!
Maybe, but they get to spend your money.
Well, it could have been worse - they could have prayed to Al Gore...
I always knew that enviromentalism was some kind of freaky religious cult.
The enviro-whackos just consider that practice as the first policy to slow global warming. Less people=less global warming.
It’s been many centuries since Ixchel has received a proper sacrifice. I’m thinking Ms. Figueros would make an ideal candidate.
keep
Yet if they had prayed to the one true God, the media would have LOUDLY voiced its objections.
