Newt Gingrich: "We are not going to deport 11 million people"
Politico ^ | 12/2/10 | KENDRA MARR

Posted on 12/02/2010 1:05:36 PM PST by WilliamHouston

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has a bold goal for the next decade: Overhaul the country's immigration system so that every worker in the United States is legal.

"We are not going to deport 11 million people," Gingrich said Thursday as he kicked off his first forum on Latino issues. "There has to be some zone between deportation and amnesty."

A possible presidential candidate, Gingrich stressed that his target of establishing an entirely legal work force is "not a call for amnesty." Rather, he said, it's about applying common sense to the immigration debacle.

"Dos y dos son cuatro" (two plus two equals four), he said to chuckles. . .

Pat Buchanan has right about the problem in ‘92 and ‘96. Tom Tancredo was absolutely right about it in ‘08.

I have been eagerly waiting for Palin to state a clear position on illegal immigration, including what to do with the millions already here. She still has not been clear. This is from your link and is about as close as she has come to stating a position.

Palin: Then let's keep it, then, then we won't complicate it any more. Let's keep it simple. And let's say no that if you are here illegally, if you don't follow the steps that at some point in immigration reform that we are going to be able to provide that will allow you somehow to be able to work - if you are not going to do that, then you will be deported. You will be gone.

She's talking about providing some steps for illegals to follow in some future immigration reform - to be able to work. That is just one more form of amnesty.

Sarah does not want to state a clear position on what to do with the illegals already here. And she's not the only one dancing around that issue. But her most ardent supporters need to stop claiming that she has been clear on immigration issues because she has not.

And I'm not being overly critical of her. I keep hoping she will state a clear position. If she would, I'd consider her my first choice at this point. But she has not yet stated a clear position. Maybe she will next year during debates, if she in fact becomes a candidate.

.........there are lots of big businesses that don’t hire illegals.

Sure IBM, Cisco Systems, Microsoft. But plenty that use cheap unskilled labor do. Tyson Chicken, meatpacking plants.

When I was refering to "big business" was not just large employers but business in general.

I agree. That has to happen. None of that largesse should be available not only for non-citizens but cut off entirely. 100% unconstitutional.

O’Reilly: So you’re President of the United States - Sarah Palin. You send how many National Guards to the border right away to secure it?

Palin: However many you need - this is the top priority. This is a national security issue..

O’Reilly: (interrupts) Alright, but I’m talking Texas, California, New Mexico, all of ‘em. So, you send maybe ten , fifteen thousand national guards down there to assist the border control. Yes?

Palin: Whatever it takes, whatever it takes.

O’Reilly: Alright, so you militarize the border, ah, you, you finish the fence. Finish building the fence from Brownsville to San Diego. Yes?

Palin: Yep.

O’Reilly: Now we have twelve million people staring at you. And you say to those people, you’re in here illegally, you broke civil law - by coming in here. Um, now are you going to deport them? What are you going to do?

Palin: Well, again, we, first let me go back to the importance of securing the border. If we start talking about amnesty before...

O Reilly (interrupts) No, no, well, we got that, we got that, Governor. Everybody...All Factor people watching this

Palin: (interrupts) No, we don’t.

O Reilly (interrupts) Yeah, the people watching this program have it. We have it. We assume that you - as president - would secure the border. I’ve confidence you would do that. But now you have to look into it. Alright and you’ve got 12 million people staring at you. What are you going to have them do?

Palin: You’re not going to give them a free pass. You’re not going to say - ok - you and, ah, anybody else who wants to scree across this porous border between now and when we do finally get it fenced in and physically secure - we’re going to give you a free pass. And just because you’ve broken laws in the past know we can trust you...

O Reilly: (interrupts) Alright , no amnesty.

Palin: No - no amnesty - which means

O Reilly: (interrupts) But what do you do with these folks? Do you make them register with the federal government? Do you tell them they have sixty days to get outta here before we put you in jail? What do we do with them?

Palin: Do we make them register with the Federal government? Yes, we do. We have to

O Reilly. (interrupts) Yes, so we know who they, where they are...

Palin: Yes, exactly. So in answer to that question, absolutely. We ‘re not giving them a free pass. We’re not going to reward the bad behavior.

O Reilly: (interrupts) Alright, So you don’t reward the bad behavior. You make them register with the federal government. Say you give them sixty days to register with the fed gov., there’s a form at the Post Office they have to send like a census form, alright. Say they don’t do it? Alright.

Palin: You deport them.

O Reilly: (interrupts) Ok so After a period of time, the ones that don’t cooperate then you catch them, they’re gone. Now you have these people that register. You are going to have millions of them. Then they register and they say - ok we obeyed what President Palin told us to do -then what? - do you give them green cards to work right away, what do you do with them?

Palin: You know there has to be that expectation that they will work and that they will contribute. Bill, It makes me uncomfortable that we’re even going down that path so far when ...

O Reilly: (interrupts)You have to though.

Palin: No, no

O Reilly: (interrupts) You have to go down that path, it’s gonna come up.

Palin: No. American citizens who are - who are here lawfully - they need to be the ones with the first shot at getting these jobs. We cannot make it easy on those who have chosen to be illegal - illegally here, to disobey our laws. No!

O Reilly: No, we can’t make it easy, but they’re here and we can’t starve them to death. And If they can’t work, if they don’t have a green card to work, ah, they’re gonna be hosed. I mean they gotta pay rent, they gotta buy groceries, this, that and the other thing. I mean this is where it gets very complicated, Governor. You know it gets very, very complicated - because you are rewarding bad behavior. You let them stay in the United States because they came in illegally.

Palin: Then let’s keep it, then, then we won’t complicate it any more. Let’s keep it simple. And let’s say no that if you are here illegally, if you don’t follow the steps that at some point in immigration reform that we are going to be able to provide that will allow you somehow to be able to work - if you are not going to do that, then you will be deported. You will be gone.

O Reilly: (interrupts) Ok, we’ve established that. We’ve established that though.

Palin: Let’s look at case history, let’s look at case history. Let’s look at what political hero, Ronald Reagan tried to do with three million illegals all those years ago.

O Reilly: (interrupts) He botched it though governor. Reagan botched it. He botched it.

Palin: Exactly, that’s what I’m saying. So that’s what I’m saying, so we learn from history. We won’t do what, what he did in that respect in that round.

O Reilly: No but you’re gonna have to - whoever the next president is, is going to have to deal with 12 million people and that is going to be very, very difficult.

Newt has OBVIOUSLY caught a severe case of beltwayitis, characterized by the inability to see any solution to any problem that doesn’t involve massive and direct government action.

If the laws currently on the books against employment of illegal labor were rigorously enforced, there would be no need to “deport” millions.

Just as no massive government program was needed to get them here, just their own self interest - no massive government program will be needed to get them back home, just their own self interest.

When the jobs go, they will go.

While the jobs are here, they will find their way here.

You deport them they will just come back for the work.

No work and there is no reason for them to come.

We are supposed to have elected the best and brightest up in Washington and our state houses.

Either these people truly are the dumbest damn people on the planet, mentally handicapped or they're leaving these borders wide open for a purpose.

There is an agenda.

Think about it, whether republican or democrat, the borders have remained porous for decades.

Violence rages on and spills over into our country year after year whether Bush, Clinton, Bush, O-bozo.

Over the last decade, approx. 30,000 people have been killed down there.

We do not even have a majority in the Senate and folks think we can somehow get a bill passed mandating the deportation of illegals. If we had the White House and 60 seats in the Sentate, it would be a different story, but we don’t. So why does everyone get their drawers in a knot when someone states the obvious?

"We are not going to deport 11 million people," Gingrich said Thursday as he kicked off his first forum on Latino issues. "There has to be some zone between deportation and amnesty."

How about we enforce the laws we have, especially against criminal illegals who are arrested and against employers who hire illegals? They will leave on their own if they can't make a profit working here or in some cases if they can't make it as criminals here the way they do under today's "catch and release" policy.

“You know - that period of time during which she was compelled to support the stated policies of the presidential candidate?”

Look. The dumbbell I was talking to said she never said this. I said she did. I proved it. Go back over the ten thousand posts I’ve made here and see how many (probably 1,000 plus) I have made supporting Sarah Palin.

What is wrong with you? You know I am no Palin basher. One of her most popular pictures came out of my computer. Cripes. Get a grip. And don’t be in such a hurry to point out that she is not as scrupulous in speaking her mind as you seem to be saying. I think she has evolved, which is giving her a hell of a lot more credit than you are. And I did NOT conveniently leave off anything. I was proving a point - that’s all.

She doesn’t go as far as I would, which, if you had bothered reading my posts, is profiling, card checking and deporting anyone on the spot. That doesn’t mean I don’t support her.

I am a CONSERVATIVE; always have been, so my support of Sarah Palin really shouldn't surprise/shock anyone; though I see that it does, for some here. Admittedly, by the standard, cockeyed "rules", I am probably the last person who should be a Palin supporter......which just goes to show ya how dumb such assumptions really are. I'm blunt, jla, not acerbic.

Palin only said "deport them" if they don't register at the local post office...i.e. don't register for amnesty.

O Reilly: (interrupts) Alright, So you don’t reward the bad behavior. You make them register with the federal government. Say you give them sixty days to register with the fed gov., there’s a form at the Post Office they have to send like a census form, alright. Say they don’t do it? Alright.

You just blew it and contradicted your own, far too broad a brushstroke, "business in general" line. There are words in the English language used as modifiers...........try learning and using them, so you don't make a fool of yourself in the future.
