Newt Gingrich: "We are not going to deport 11 million people"
Politico ^ | 12/2/10 | KENDRA MARR

Posted on 12/02/2010 1:05:36 PM PST by WilliamHouston

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has a bold goal for the next decade: Overhaul the country's immigration system so that every worker in the United States is legal.

"We are not going to deport 11 million people," Gingrich said Thursday as he kicked off his first forum on Latino issues. "There has to be some zone between deportation and amnesty."

A possible presidential candidate, Gingrich stressed that his target of establishing an entirely legal work force is "not a call for amnesty." Rather, he said, it's about applying common sense to the immigration debacle.

"Dos y dos son cuatro" (two plus two equals four), he said to chuckles. . .

I don’t know why people think she’s soft on immigration.

The Palinoia crowd continues to insist that "she's soft on illegal immigration" because they HAVE to have something to nail her on. It's a false justifier for their irrational dislike of her, plain and simple.

As president, Palin could order every federal agency to enforce our immigration laws to the letter, and these few Palin haters on the right wouldn't skip a beat or bat an eye, in their unsupportable criticisms of her.

It's not called "PDS" for nothing.

They all post the same damned crapola and then congratulate each other on being more intelligent than those who do support her.

If Sarah gets in she will be like every other politician regarding this problem. Pay lip service to it and maybe do some token measures to appease the peasants.

Big business wants this cheap labor and they pull the purse strings and control the machine behind the curtain...and she knows it. She is not dumb.

If she was for mass deportation she would say so. I watch her on this issue(and others) and she is very uncommitted and vague. That tells you something right there.

What zone is there between deportation and amnesty? Serfdom? It sounds like Gingrich's logic would compute Dos y dos son cinco.

Every time this topic comes up, I'm reminded of

President Pat Buchanan, and Governor Tom Tancredo,

and how over the years, how schizophrenic FR has been, about them.

“Do you really think that she was expressing her unvarnished view in 2008 or do you think she had to toe the line set by the McCain campaign on it?”

I hope so ... isn’t that her strength? Are you suggesting she wasn’t herself? Look, I already said, in 3 different posts, that I thought she was the leader at this point in my book. Anyone who has been here more than two years and read ANY of my posts know that I believe that. What is your problem? You might want to reconsider that career in campaign management if you think it’s a good strategy to have people wondering about her forthrightness. I believe she said it because she said it. WTF?

You sent me the link on the Palin/O'Reilly discussion on the issue. I suggest you reread it. Palin is advocating amnesty. She wants them to register and allow them to stay and work here. The only ones she will deport are those who don't register.

. I have watched and listened to a number of Palin interviews on the issue. She is trying to play word games. Anyone who knows the issue, like Univision, can nail her down. O'Reilly did a better job than most. This interview is very damning. Palin had better change her position on this issue if she wants to get the nomination. Right now she is in the amnesty camp.

Palin: "Then let's keep it, then, then we won't complicate it any more. Let's keep it simple. And let's say no that if you are here illegally, if you don't follow the steps that at some point in immigration reform that we are going to be able to provide that will allow you somehow to be able to work - if you are not going to do that, then you will be deported. You will be gone.

What your post tells me, is that you assume that you “know” what everyone is going to do; that’s a really dumb thing, on your part.

She doesn’t have to lay out any plan/s, right now, about anything. If she does, she just gets grief about it, her words are completely ignored or twisted.

Why don’t you just wait and see and FYI.........there are lots of big businesses that don’t hire illegals.

Somewhat surprising to see that you support Mrs Palin. Though you have retained your acerbic and confrontational tone. :^)

It's just not likely to happen. Sorry, folks -- that's just the way it is.

Mass deportations?? No way. Never happen. But we can get rid of them through attrition and slam shut the border with a wall and start controlling seriously who comes in.

There was a show on TV several weeks back showing kids who were brought here when they were 1-2 years old. They are totally Americanized and feel America is their country and not Mexico. One guy graduated from HS and is going to go to college and he speaks impecable English, clean cut and is not a gang banger...but he has no SS number. His parents own a home here and are upstanding citizens.

No way would our gov't send this kid back or his family. Never happen. I'm being realistic here.

As other have said, control the border, punish employers who hire them harshly and start cutting off benefits and the problem will control itself. That being said our country is not going to be rid of Mexicans by a long shot.

Everyone needs to read Anthony Bourdains book "Kitchen Confidential". 90% of the cooks and dishwashers in restraunts in NYC are illegals...and he said a white guy would never do those jobs. The ones that do get hired last 2 days and quit.

There are many ways to make them self deport.

You cannot rent or buy a house without valid id-—Birth Certificate, Social security number etc. A matrix of cross checks. A requirement should be made to check these id’s from a Federal/State database. Quick and easy, once it’s up and going.

They check[harass] millions of lawful citizens for firearm purchases.....the least they could do is check for criminal beans in the country. It’s an invasion. PERIOD. Far more lethal and ultimately will lead to the death of America as we know it.

If they can’t live anywhere, work anywhere, drive anywhere, get government services of ANY KIND.....back to the 3rd world sh!t hole they slithered out of.

End of problem.

"We are not going to deport 11 million people"

Even though we should.

I'll be satisfied with 10 million.....to start.

This is a red herring of anrgument; we don’t need to spend time and energy deporting them. What we need to do is turn off the freebies that make them want to hop the border in the first place.

No welfare, no food stamps, no college tuition, no driver’s licenses, not one damn social service without proof of citizenship.

Turn the spigot off, and there will be no reason for the vast majority of them to come here anymore.

Relax. My point is that being a VP candidate you can’t speak your mind on issues where you disagree with the Presidential candidate, so I look at what Palin has said post 2008.

It could happen, can happen, and maybe will happen.

You can’t see the future.

Illegals need to get the hell back to where they came from, and as crap hits the fan more and more, they will either leave voluntarily (no more welfare) or people legally here and regular citizens will get sick and tired of the crime and filth and get rid of them. Meaning politicians will have to start acting as they should and not as servants of globalist crap ideas and behind the scenes elites.

I report, you decide, OK?

"Report"? That's a laugh. That was as sneaky as anything I've seen in the liberal MSM.

You conveniently left the date of that Univision interview off your "report". Had you included that, anyone reading it would realize that Palin made those remarks during the 2008 campaign. You know - that period of time during which she was compelled to support the stated policies of the presidential candidate?

She has since made her own positions on the issue clear to the public, as noted in post #125.

If you insist on differing with her on a policy, please find one that is current, and which clearly departs from conservative orthodoxy.
