Newt Gingrich: "We are not going to deport 11 million people"
Politico ^ | 12/2/10 | KENDRA MARR

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has a bold goal for the next decade: Overhaul the country's immigration system so that every worker in the United States is legal.

"We are not going to deport 11 million people," Gingrich said Thursday as he kicked off his first forum on Latino issues. "There has to be some zone between deportation and amnesty."

A possible presidential candidate, Gingrich stressed that his target of establishing an entirely legal work force is "not a call for amnesty." Rather, he said, it's about applying common sense to the immigration debacle.

"Dos y dos son cuatro" (two plus two equals four), he said to chuckles. . .

My great great grandparents came decades before 1900 and not only did they become naturalized citizens, they learned to speak and write ENGLISH, as did all of their children, who weren’t born here.

We have Deported People before, after W.W. II and during the 1950’s with Ike. So why not now?

Oh, and unlike YOU, I don’t have to “ponder”; I know my family’s history!

I believe President Bush had a pretty good plan....the so called “path”...

A fancy term for amnesty.

All you folks should check and see if your grandparents (say those who arrived here c 1900) were citizens...

And what does that have to do with anything? We now have set immigration laws that need to be enforced.

"Oh, in practicality that is a better way to get them to leave than to try to deport every one of them."

That's all I'm saying. I don't know what Newt is saying, and I'd wager neither does he. And, whatever he's saying, will probably change within the week.

I just wanted to point out that there are measures that could be taken short of lassoing 11M, and dragging them back to Mexico. I'm also pointing out that we won't do that because the Republicans are in bed with big-business who needs cheap labor. Both parties, have their own selfish reasons for keeping illegals here and in large numbers.

The Heritage Foundation concluded that the cost of amnesty alone would be $2.6 trillion. And the number of additional LEGAL immigrants who would join those who were the recipients of amnesty through chain migration, i.e., family reunification, would approach 70 million over a 20-year period, assuming there are only 12 million illegal aliens. We cannot assimilate such numbers. An amnesty would destroy the United States of America with the stroke of a pen.

Announce an immediate shift of Internal Revenue Service resources to audit companies that are deliberately hiring people illegally. We do not have to focus on deporting those who want to work. We need to focus on the Americans who are getting richer by deliberately breaking our laws, hiring people illegally and failing to pay taxes. These people are cheating their own country. We should focus on fining and making it economically impractical for Americans to deliberately encourage law breaking. Economic penalties for knowingly hiring someone who is illegal should rise dramatically with each employer (including subcontractors) conviction, making it simply too expensive to cheat. This will eliminate the magnet of illegal jobs, will begin to diminish the flow of new illegal workers and will lead some illegal workers to return home voluntarily.

Don’t you know, yet, that facts don’t matter to the anti-Palinistas?

They all post the same damned crapola and then congratulate each other on being more intelligent than those who do support her.

California’s budget deficit corresponds almost exactly to the amount of money spent on aid to illegals.

Sometimes I wonder if the unemployment rate ties in that neatly with the number of illegals present in our country.

But Republicans are also against a massive bureaucratic police state that could be used against us once it is established. Look at the reaction that many have towards the TSA.

And the real Newt Gingrich finally unzips and removes the Conservative Costume and pops forth, demanding a piece of the global warming carbon-trading graft pie, and demanding equal rights for undocumented Democrats.

Hey Newt, go cheat on your wife. Again.

Context???

I don't think anyone expects Gestapo charging into houses and dragging people out to be deported (except the Dems and poor little Elian). The fairest way is to make certain that illegals cannot draw any benefit from any level of government. Next, illegals cannot work for pay in America. Next, any illegal who comes into contact with a governmental agency will be deported. This will cause most of them to pack up and move on.

This is the constitutional solution. It therefore is Sarah's solution.

Palin has two years to hold her finger to the wind and adopt the right position on immigration.

Next year dozens of states will pass Arizona-style immigration laws. Gutierrez is threatening mass protests if he doesn’t get the DREAM Amnesty. Look at what happened after Arizona. Now imagine half the Union “pulling an Arizona” in 2011.

It is highly unlikely that Palin will be spitting in the wind by 2012. By the time 2012 rolls around, Americans will be so hopping mad with the Obama administration over immigration that it would be political suicide to endorse the amnesty position.

I don’t want Newt anywhere NEAR the White House if he thinks there are only 11 million illegals in this country. He might want to have Steve King sit down on that couch of his for a chat...if Nancy will scoot over.
