Newt Gingrich: "We are not going to deport 11 million people"
Politico ^ | 12/2/10 | KENDRA MARR

Posted on 12/02/2010 1:05:36 PM PST by WilliamHouston

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has a bold goal for the next decade: Overhaul the country's immigration system so that every worker in the United States is legal.

"We are not going to deport 11 million people," Gingrich said Thursday as he kicked off his first forum on Latino issues. "There has to be some zone between deportation and amnesty."

A possible presidential candidate, Gingrich stressed that his target of establishing an entirely legal work force is "not a call for amnesty." Rather, he said, it's about applying common sense to the immigration debacle.

"Dos y dos son cuatro" (two plus two equals four), he said to chuckles. . .

There is no probable GOP candidate for 2012 that would deport all the illegals. That’s simple fact.

Let's start with enforcement of our existing laws and securing our border including a system that tracks and deports visa overstays who make up about 40% of the illegal population. Attrition thru enforcement works. The choice is not between mass deportation and blanket amnesty.

We tried a "one-time" blanket amnesty in 1986. The government estimated that 1 million would apply and the true number turned out to be 2.7 million. We now have 12 to 20 million illegals and fools like Gingrich want to legalize their status as way of eliminating the problem. It will just encourage more illegals to come for a third amnesty.

You’re absolutely right, whether they have to pay a ‘fine’ to get on the path to citizenship, are delayed somehow in receiving citizenship, or just become long-term legal residents. It’s all amnesty.

It simply means nobody would be allowed to hire any illegals so they will just leave on their own. You don’t need some massive bureaucratic police state to go after everyone.

This is a serious problem.

I don’t WANT to grant amnesty to illegals. Its unfair to those who came here legally. It encourages further illegals and it increasing the Democrat Voting Base. He must be having beers with Bush II and Juan McAmnesty.

But the large number of illegals allowed in by Bush II and Obama makes the problem of dealing with them an issue.

There are many aspects of Gingrich which are defective and I think he’s the wrong candidate - not just for this, but because he is another TIRED old face when the party needs a new one.

But a compromise on amnesty probably may become inevitable.

Our best hope is to SEE TO IT that there is NO amensty unless the borders are secured FIRST and STRONG EMASURES taken to put out of business those corporations who knowlingly hire illegals, punish those charities and churches which provide them with sanctuary, and take strong punative measures against all “Sanctuary Cities”.

I think you are both wrong about Palin on this issue:

I.

By Matt DeLong
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, August 2, 2010

Former Alaska governor Sarah Palin said Sunday that Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer (R) has “the cojones” that President Obama “does not have” to take on illegal immigration.

Appearing on “Fox News Sunday,” Palin (R) blasted Obama over the Justice Department’s lawsuit to block Arizona’s controversial new law and attacked him in particular for not addressing “sanctuary cities” — where local law enforcement is prohibited from asking people about their immigration status. Arizona’s law bans sanctuary cities.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/08/01/AR2010080102791.html

II.

On the first episode of “Alaska” she said we should build the fence.

III.

Whatever it takes...no amnesty...keep it simple,” vows Palin, annointed President Palin on The Factor. In spite of Bill O’Reilly’s posited amnesty bias, in spite of overbearing interruptions, in spite of a battery of staccato questions with no chance to provide a full answer, O’Reilly failed to rattle Palin’s resolve that protecting America’s borders is a top priority, a national security issue.

Sarah Palin delivered solutions the majority of Americans support : Secure the borders, enforce the federal immigration laws, no amnesty, American citizens get first shot at American jobs, and no repeating past mistakes - whatever it takes.

What follows is the video of this riveting interview in O’Reilly’s No Spin Zone, a transcription of the clip which focused on illegal immigration, prepared by Political Buzz Examiner, Devonia Smith.

http://www.examiner.com/political-buzz-in-dallas/illegal-immigration-o-reilly-batters-sarah-palin-on-amnesty-vs-solutions-video-transcript (includes link to video)

Etc.

This is from a quick google. I don’t know why people think she’s soft on immigration. She was a VP candidate for Juan McCain. You can’t attack your presidential candidate’s positions and accept the VP nod. Palin is not bound by McCain’s positions and hasn’t been since 2008.

why can’t we just make the U.S. a very undesirable place for them to live, starting with NO WELFARE, NO JOBS, NO MEDICAID for illegals.

I see no mention of self-deportation (such as the likes of Fred Thompson have used). And once again, 'common-sense' is the giveaway. I don't trust Newt as far as I could throw him. He will be like McCain in promoting amnesty while pretending what he is selling isn't amnesty.

In other words, he's just another Beltway oil slick.

Every election we are bombarded with ads and endorsements touting the grand leadership qualities, wisdom, experience and overall greatness of the candidates. Every single one of them is some combination of Solomon, Washington, Lincoln and Patton. A combination of several hundred such titans should be able to move mountains. And they can’t even do the most basic and fundemental job required of them: protect and preserve the integrity of the nation’s borders.

As Arizona has shown, you don’t have to deport all 11 million to cause many to go home on their own, or refrain from coming. You just announce that you are enforcing the laws that are on the books and, as each situation arises, start really doing it.

I just think there has to be justice for the people who follow the rules and immigrate legally. They must be justifiably angry at the people who want amnesty, when, as legal immigrants, they stood in line, waited, followed the rules, and took the oath of citizenship out loud, with pride.

13 million jobs lost, deport 11 million illegals? Sounds like the numbers add up. On a smarter note, we won’t have to deport 11 million if we do it right, they’ll deport themselves.

“Arizona’s law bans sanctuary cities.”

Unfortunately, Alaska does not
http://www.sanctuarycities.info/sanctuary_state_alaska.htm
That is why we need a law that bans all sanctuary cities across the country.

"There has to be some zone between deportation and amnesty."

Really? If you don't deport illegal aliens, it is defacto amnesty.

Self deport works. They didn’t get here without some effort.

Newt is a slick, self serving insider. I would hate to see this guy in the White House.

He knows as well as anyone that legalizing 21 million or more illegal aliens will destroy America as we have known it. Illegal aliens (criminals) will vote as a bloc. They are encouraged to hold dual citizenship, which means that their allegiance is not to the USA.

Let Newt explain why he thinks that this is a desirable thing to happen. I defy him to do that. But, then too, there is no one who will ask him that.

Washington, DC is a cesspool. Gingrich is in his element there.

20 year prison term for employers who hire them will solve 90% of the problem.

Doesn't take that. I know a restaurant chain that was 'inspected' at one location and they had to close because they had no kitchen help left. IMMEDIATELY, the word went out to the rest of the chain. Clean up your act on illegals.

Words have meanings. The Democrats and the mainstream media have hijacked the language surrounding the immigration issue to the point that we had Michael Chertoff, the Secretary of Homeland Security and our nation’s top immigration official at the time, testifying before Congress using the term “undocumented workers” to describe illegal aliens. John McCain and Barack Obama studiously avoided the term “amnesty” to describe their comprehensive immigration reform plans and despite the evidence, baldly declared that it was not an amnesty. Instead, they used such euphemisms as “getting to the back of the line,” “an earned path to citizenship,” and “coming out of the shadows.” The Democrats and pro-amnesty crowd know full well that the American people are against amnesty, hence the avoidance of the “A” word. This Orwellian use of language is part of the scam.

The path to citizenship starts in their home countries. There are close to 3 million intending legal immigrants abroad waiting their turn to come into this country. Some have been waiting for more than 10 years. Allowing those who entered to stay and work here puts them at the front of the line. And why should we want these people as residents and citizens? They flaunted and broke our laws to get in here and they probably committed ID theft, tax evasion, etc. to work here.

Okay Newtie. Get this: what is it now? 11 million illegals, not 40-60 million, you LIAR! Metaphorically speaking, we're not going to allow your millions, or better, minions to deport US!

You understand what you please. If we have to deport them, you included. Law? NBC? Were already suffering from the likes of you dissing the Constitution and law & order that you teach daily until they are in your way! Does 0b0z0, the highest-ranking illegal alien ring a bell in your little pea between your f*****g ears?

Newt, screw you and your ilk! You’re pushing your country to the brink. In that, you’re doing 0h0m0’s work and precipitating a disaster.

“This is from a quick google. I don’t know why people think she’s soft on immigration.”

Hold on. I didn’t say it was true, Ijust said that if she did think that, she was wrong. However, you can also pretty easily find the following interview with Univisión anchor Jorge Ramos;

Interview on Television;

RAMOS: Governor, let me ask you about immigration. How many undocumented immigrants are there in Alaska?

PALIN: I don’t know, I don’t know. That’s a good question.

RAMOS: As governor, how do you deal with them? Do you think they all should be deported?

PALIN: There is no way that in the US we would roundup every illegal immigrant — there are about 12 million of the illegal immigrants — not only economically is that just an impossibility but that’s not a humane way anyway to deal with the issue that we face with illegal immigration.”

I report, you decide, OK?
