A judge revealed Wednesday what he called a disturbing motive behind the murder of Matthew Chew as he walked home from work in New London Oct. 29.
Six teens appeared in court Wednesday to face various charges in connection with the murder.
Reading from a sealed arrest warrant, Judge Kevin McMahon said the group beat Chew to death for "no reason" other than "because they were bored", according to a report in The Day of New London.
Idris Elahi and Marquis Singleton, both 17, are charged with Chew's murder. Brian Rabell, 18, and three 17-year-olds, Tyree Bundy, Matias Perry and Rashad Perry (no relation), are all charged with accessory to murder.
McMahon blasted police, who initially said Chew was using his cell phone to buy drugs at the time of his murder, and that the attack was drug related, the paper reported.
"I'm not happy with the police department's conduct," McMahon said. He continued that the victim's actions that night had "nothing to do with his death", according to The Day.

Don’t flame me, but I feel sorry for NORMAL African-Americans. These stories seem endless and it does indicate some sort of societal breakdown in the AA community, at least in the urban areas with poverty, bad education, single mother, etc.

Matthew was born in Japan on May 16, 1985, son of Commander Richard F. and Marilyn (Sloan) Chew of Arcadia, Calif. Matthew grew up in Gales Ferry, graduating from Ledyard High School in 2003. Matt had a strong connection to the art and music community and was a passionate artist and musician, deejaying at several local clubs. He adored his dog, Ellie and enjoyed being a part of the 2 Wives Pizza family. He will be well remembered by his family and many friends.
In addition to his parents, he is survived by his brother, Michael Chew and girlfriend, Alexandra Monter, of Mansfield; and his sister and brother-in-law, Mindy and Wayne Fowler of Canterbury. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Cody, Ivy, Roman, and Athena; and his girlfriend, Lindsey Krodel.

Had the victim played a game of “DODGE BULLET” with them, I bet he would have ended their boredom real fast.
A judge that actually yelled at police because they lied. Either this guy will go places, or he’ll have to retire early due to “problems.”
They are accused in the death of a man, who was walking home from his job. (something the killers obviously knew nothing about)
Police say 25-year-old Matthew Chew had just left his job at Two Wives Brick Oven Pizza back on October 29th and was on his way home to Huntington Street when he was attacked while walking. Stabbed six times he tried to make his way back to the restaurant but he collapsed in the road.
As for motive, the ten-page warrant is sealed but the judge said witness statements indicate there was “no reason” and “because we were bored.”
We say it every time but it is true. Imagine the hysteria from the media, politicians, “community activists,” etc if a group of bored white youths killed a minority for no reason.
AND because the victim was Chinese.
I always get confused on the terminology. It used to be negro, then black, then African-American (referring to blacks of US birth as opposed to Africans), then it was black again, etc.
Why I am not surprised. Minorities refer to whites as whitey, cracker, honky, Pohonk, white devil, gringo, albino, etc.

There is nothing flame worthy in your comment. There are many 'normal' (I prefer, sensible) Americans who happen to be black that frequent this forum.
I've had a similar sentiment for many years. I know dozens of well educated, classy black ladies who can not find a decent mate of their own race.
It is a sad situation at the very least. Fortunately, attitudes are changing, gradually.
