Editor's note: Ed Rollins, a senior political contributor for CNN, is senior presidential fellow at the Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency at Hofstra University. He is a principal with the Dilenschneider Group, a global public relations firm. He was White House political director for President Ronald Reagan and chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
(CNN) -- The first date is over. Not much happened. President Obama and his new governing partners, the House and Senate Republicans, met at the White House along with the Democratic leaders and discussed the unsolvable issues between them.
Even though they made no decisions and both sides went their separate ways, they agreed to start negotiations on extending the tax cuts. That in itself is the beginning of a positive process. They actually talked to each other and talked of a plan for action.
As with real dating, both sides have to get along or nothing will happen. So maybe this situation has more in common with an arranged marriage.
The American voters are the substitute parents, and they want this marriage to work or at least to be civil. And we, the voters, hold the shotgun.

Thank you again for the links. I wish more of Palin’s “cheerleaders” on FR would approach this issue as you have. I will continue to read (and read, and read - link upon link upon link) there is good information here. Nicely done - I am in your debt.
This thread is separating the wheat from the chaff it seems.
I just posted to you the evidence. Only a hypocritical bot-like moron such as yourself could ignore it.
The amendment WAS the Fannie Freddie bailout.
What part of....
Your precious voted for the Marxist Freddie and Fannie Bailout.
"He is a great guy. But he is a lousy Republican."
-----
Well, if by "great guy" you mean "slimy, dishonest, backstabbing, dim-witted, megalomaniacal, vile piece of human garbage whose every word and deed is calculated to curry favor with the enemies of liberty by opposing everything worth supporting and supporting everything worthy of opposition and sell the people who have supported him down the river for good press?"
Then yeah, he's a great guy. Otherwise he's pretty much pondscum.
Dumb pondscum.
Hank
The dipsh*t who wrote this article is as dumb as you.
From your OWN link.
Introduced: 7/30/07
House Passed: 8/4/07 (vote 832, Hunter NAY)
Senate Passed 4/10/08 (adding the F&F bailout)
President Signed 7/30/08.
Everything between 4/10/08 and 7/30/08 was back and forth over AMENDMENTS to the bill. And the HOUSE vote to accept the SENATE AMENDMENT BAILOUT - Hunter voted NAY
My comment was in response to a "what had Reagan done at the same age" question. That speech -- which Reagan wrote himself -- shows his depth of understanding and his ability to speak compellingly.
And the point was, Sarah Palin doesn't measure up, either in depth of thought or in eloquence. It is unlikely that she could give a speech like that, much less write it on her own.
Lets see how quickly current conservative leaders jump on her bandwagon.
And who would those be?
Tell me how it could possibly get any worse? They've thrown everything they have at her and nothing has stuck. She thwarted the "cage her and kill her" plan in Alaska by resigning and has taken the fight straight into Obama's face. So you are WRONG!
“What is it with these party dinosaurs?
Are they crying out for relevance? Are they afraid events are passing them by?”
Very good questions. And to ask the question is to answer it.
Ouch!! And you are right.
nopardons, are you a Palinista?
Palin has never said she was Reagan and Rollins is an ass for making it seem as if she did. Why are you all debating over something that Sarah has never called herself?
You're still in denial, bug brain.
It's not just that one source. There are numerous sources. They all disagree with you.
From your OWN link. Introduced: 7/30/07 House Passed: 8/4/07 (vote 832, Hunter NAY) Senate Passed 4/10/08 (adding the F&F bailout) President Signed 7/30/08. It's Funny how you don't mention the the content of the July 2008 amendment. Aren't you even curious to find out what Duncan Hunter voted "aye" on, or do you have your ant-size head buried too far in it.
It was the F&F bailout.
HR 3221 (Roll Call 519)The House adopted Senate amendments vastly expanding the federal governments authority to interfere in the national housing markets, allowing higher limits on risky loans and changing regulations on Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. This version added another $4 billion grant program to be handed out by local governments. ACU opposes this interference in the housing market and further nationalization of the housing industry, but the bill was adopted July 23 by a vote of 272-152.33
I realize that by every single crazy assumption about people and whom they should be for or against, that I am probably the least likely person to actually be a Palin supporter, but I am one and avidly so.
So why is it that after reading at least one of my posts to this thread, you have to ask me if I am a “PLAINISTA”? I thought that I was consistently clear about my position.
.
LOL!
Yup
He could be chasing the Presidential Seal!
Heard on FNC that Ass-on the Whacky-Leaker is in England - and they know where he is
If you rely on other idiots to do your research, you will spout their idiocies. The July “reintroduction” from the Senate was the senate agreed with some house amendments.
It was 4/10/08 that the Senate substantially changed the bill (and title, btw) with their amendment to add the Fannie and Freddie bailout. Not July. You would know that if you had read the conggressional record. The first vote back in the House was whether to accept THAT amendment. Hunter voted NAY. Just as he did on the creation of this legislation in the first place.
You do understand that Palin is smart enough to not run for president, don’t you?
Okay.
Everybody is wrong and you are right.
I post evidence and you post nothing at all.
What ever floats your precious boat, pissant.
LOL!
As I said, your precious one voted for both the Auto and F&F Bailouts along with the Prescription Drug Benefit and No Child Left Behind.
