Editor's note: Ed Rollins, a senior political contributor for CNN, is senior presidential fellow at the Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency at Hofstra University. He is a principal with the Dilenschneider Group, a global public relations firm. He was White House political director for President Ronald Reagan and chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
(CNN) -- The first date is over. Not much happened. President Obama and his new governing partners, the House and Senate Republicans, met at the White House along with the Democratic leaders and discussed the unsolvable issues between them.
Even though they made no decisions and both sides went their separate ways, they agreed to start negotiations on extending the tax cuts. That in itself is the beginning of a positive process. They actually talked to each other and talked of a plan for action.
As with real dating, both sides have to get along or nothing will happen. So maybe this situation has more in common with an arranged marriage.
The American voters are the substitute parents, and they want this marriage to work or at least to be civil. And we, the voters, hold the shotgun.

Actually, I like it, too. It may also be worth mentioning that when RR was starring in those films, he held a leadership position in the SAG (Screen Actors Guild) And, I'm pretty sure that he didn't quit...oh, ooops, um... uh...suspend his involvement in that job halfway through his tenure.
I knew I should have remained without comment.
We’ve got a lot of time till the next election, these threads are going to be something to see by then...!!
Or maybe many won’t be here by then, lol.
You “lighten up” and try to follow the comments ( including your own ) on this thread.
You’re falling apart, badly, on this; pissant.
“My rule of thumb is, with very few exceptions (one of them being Ron Paul) if I knew a political player’s name five years ago then they are part of the problem, have zero credibility, and should be swept from the public square.”
In 1980 after being governor from 1967 until 1975, Reagan would have been a no-go using your finely honed logic.
Obama on the other hand, was nice and new and fresh.
But then if your main guy is Ron Paul, I understand.
"I didn't leave the Democratic Party. The party left me."
I have to stop typing now before I go a post too far.
Rollins is a RINO. But Palin is NO Reagan (not close) and she admitted it on FNC recently to her credit. Let’s see if any Koolaid drinkers show up claiming she is.
Now that's a LIE!
GOP Insiders In Delaware Violated GOP Rules And Caused Republican Losses In Nov. Elections
Nothing I said was directed at your views. Not the “we” in ‘we picked McCain’. I was referring to ‘our side’, not you or me, neither whom supported the cadaver.
Rollins is a RINO? Not any more or less so than the subject of his article.
I know these political operatives were well funded and supported by the Democrat Party. I know all their charges were baseless. If Sarah ran for president don't you think what the Democrats unleashed would be 100 times worse? Do you think the establishment Republicans would help her?
I like Sarah Palin and I agree with much of what she says. I'm not sure if she is ready to go up against a full on Democrat thug propaganda attack and vicious attacks from the MSM and lots of Republicans on TV every night saying she is not qualified to be president and still win.
The Democrat operatives outmaneuvered her and forced her out of the Alaska governorship, you can't say that is “mere nonsense”. It will be much worse if she runs for president.
Are you still cheerleading for your guy Duncan Hunter who voted for the Auto the Bailout, Freddie and Fannie Bailout, the Prescription Drug Benefit, No Child Left Behind and the Farm subsidy bill?
Many presidents, from our founding onwards, have had and/or come from dysfunctional families.
Want a tiny list? Okay...................
Jefferson, Andrew Jackson, Buchanan, Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, FDR, JFK, Nixon, Reagan, Clinton, and Obama.
No, YOU keep reading it and get someone who is knowledgeable in the English language to explain WHY what you wrote was not what you imagine it meant.
"Unless the last name is Thatcher, slim chance Id be pushing a chick for prez."
"Since I dont think they should even be able to vote, what makes you think Id want one as CIC."
Nope. I wrote what I meant, and I meant what I wrote. Keep reading. You'll get it, sport.
Here's a hint: What's the difference between a state office, and a statewide office.
Not under Alaska law, which you know nothing about.
Your Freddie and Fannie is pure unadultered fantasy. The auto bailout was for 25 billion loan. Compare to over a trillion in bailouts Precious wanted.
And your Precious was the one bragging about how well AK schools improved with NCLB:
“Congratulations to the staff at the 294 Alaska public schools that made adequate yearly progress under the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) standards for the 2007-2008 school year. Our schools faced a higher bar in 2007-2008 for the percentages of students who score proficient in language arts and math assessments. Congratulations to the many schools that continue to improve in student achievement but may have fallen short in 1 or 2 of the 31 categories schools are held accountable for in NCLB.”
The Farm subsidy bill? You mean Hunter voted for an omnibus agriculture bill, which have had farm subsidies since before he was born in them?
Read and learn what conservatism is all about, Sally.

You posted a successful thread. This fire should burn a while and rack up some great comments. It's the fun thread of the night.
I don't know if I'd call Palin a RINO. She is currently more like the surprise inside the box. Of course I dont vote for surprises.
We know Reagan. He was the President of our lifetimes, the visionary, the communicator and the doer.
To be fair to Palin (vs Rollins comments), Palin dose not compare herself to Reagan , she gets put on the spot asked how she compares and blue it one time. But she recently did the right thing and replied that she doesnt compare with him, to correct the record. Of course we got Koolaid drinkers who think she is better than Reagan.
Hey, onyx. I can’t stay here. Need to go watch some mindless TV.
But I did read over 200 posts and found about six of the usual suspects who are repeating liberal talking points about Sarah or who just plain hate and fear her for some reason.
Some, like maybe Pissant, are still nursing a broken heart about some Duncan Hunter or other fav who lost.
I don’t know what the problem is with the rest of them.
But there was no substance to Rollins remarks and there has been remarkably little substance to the criticism of the anti-Palin cultists who have posted on this thread.
