Palin, I knew Reagan. You're no Reagan.
CNN ^ | 12/1/10 | Ed Rollins

Posted on 12/01/2010 12:06:59 PM PST by pissant

Editor's note: Ed Rollins, a senior political contributor for CNN, is senior presidential fellow at the Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency at Hofstra University. He is a principal with the Dilenschneider Group, a global public relations firm. He was White House political director for President Ronald Reagan and chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.

(CNN) -- The first date is over. Not much happened. President Obama and his new governing partners, the House and Senate Republicans, met at the White House along with the Democratic leaders and discussed the unsolvable issues between them.

Even though they made no decisions and both sides went their separate ways, they agreed to start negotiations on extending the tax cuts. That in itself is the beginning of a positive process. They actually talked to each other and talked of a plan for action.

As with real dating, both sides have to get along or nothing will happen. So maybe this situation has more in common with an arranged marriage.

The American voters are the substitute parents, and they want this marriage to work or at least to be civil. And we, the voters, hold the shotgun.

“Deleware is a deep BLUE state.”

We also need states like Nevada and Colorado.

There you go, using the Palinsky method against anyone who is not a cheerleader for Sarah. I didn’t call her supporters any names, but within minutes, I and others who agree with Rollins are called “petty fools,” which actually is one of the gentler epithets thrown our way.

Btw, try reading the article. Rollins tells no lies.

Actually, she said those that level childish attacks against Palin make the attackers LOOK like petty fools.

I see it that way, as well.

I am very concerned about Romney. We shall see what happens, but imho, we support the candidate that makes the most sense to us until we have our nominee and then we make what can be an excruciating choice. A choice like that we faced in 2008. To vote for McCain? To choose not to vote in protest?

It is impossible to know at this point whether we will be choosing between three candidates, given the growing ascendancy of the tea parties.

Last poll I saw (Daily Kos/PPP) a couple of weeks ago said she's beat Obama by 16 points down here. She'd carry TX big over Obama and I suspect you know that...LOL.
I tend to hang around with country-class types. Lots and lots of them around here and they love her.

LOL. Thanks, Al B.!

I just love that anecdotal stuff from predisposed posters.

Quite different from the poll you cited by PPL (Daily KOS) at that!

"Florida has mostly been a red state, which turned a bit purple lately, but which IS back to being a red state."

FL is a purple state. Over the last 20 years, it has had more than its share of Democrat Senators, sometimes two at the same time. It has had more Democrat governors since 1972 than its had Republican governors. And, it voted with the Dems in three of the last 8 presidential elections.

Marco Rubio is the first conservative to be elected to statewide office in FL in a LONG time. That's hardly the mark of a "Red" state.

Now, what were you saying about "utter drivel".

Not a fan boy but I do think Palin serves as a useful tool for identifying elitists and people who identify as "republican" rather than conservative.

Your dead wrong on how the average American feels regarding the ruling/ruled class dichotomy: it's who we are it's what gave birth to this nation. The people who disparage Palin tend to be the same people who thought McCain was our "best bet" because he was a "real conservative" who could reach across the aisle...that worked out well. They also seem to be fond of Mitt which is suspicious.

I'm not sure what you Palin haters find so unelectable about her but simply echoing the elitists and statists talking points isn't very convincing.

For the record, I was Duncan Hunter supporter, I like my conservative representatives to have some military experience and not a lot of flash, like me. I have no clue who I'll get behind for the 2012 cycle but I sure don't think Palin is to moderate, to dumb, to inexperienced or to pretty to get elected.

Mrs. Palin could use some humility re her deficiencies, and learn from those more experienced in governing this great nation. From what I've seen, though, she refuses to grow up.

You better watch out. She's going to get snarky with you!

So, you’re saying Rollins is not a “petty fool?”
Well, we’re making some progress then. I don’t see anything petty, foolish or childish about what he has to say and I agree with him, having read the entire article. Palin, on the other hand, has been petty and childish time and time again. I stand by that.

That the sputtering, about to gasp-its-last GOP Machine got to him is of absolutely no consequence. That he honestly admitted to seeing alot of his father in Palin is the point. I could care less what some paid-off adopted bastard stepchild claims to think Palin's chances of winning are; that's not up to him, that's up to us.

He'll answer for his slimey greaseball shiv maneuver, and may it cost him many sleepless nights tossing in the bed of nails he's made for himself. If I ever run into him, I'll pop him one right in the snout. N'yuk n'yuk n'yuk.

people who thought McCain was our "best bet" because he was a "real conservative" who could reach across the aisle

Most of us supported McCain because our vote was split between other worthy candidates and McNasty was the last one standing.

The same thing just happened in Michigan. Conservatives split between three candidates and we have a "moderate" / liberal Republican for governor.
