Editor's note: Ed Rollins, a senior political contributor for CNN, is senior presidential fellow at the Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency at Hofstra University. He is a principal with the Dilenschneider Group, a global public relations firm. He was White House political director for President Ronald Reagan and chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
(CNN) -- The first date is over. Not much happened. President Obama and his new governing partners, the House and Senate Republicans, met at the White House along with the Democratic leaders and discussed the unsolvable issues between them.
Even though they made no decisions and both sides went their separate ways, they agreed to start negotiations on extending the tax cuts. That in itself is the beginning of a positive process. They actually talked to each other and talked of a plan for action.
As with real dating, both sides have to get along or nothing will happen. So maybe this situation has more in common with an arranged marriage.
The American voters are the substitute parents, and they want this marriage to work or at least to be civil. And we, the voters, hold the shotgun.

Ed, you stinking ward heeler, you took walkaround bribe money to the mean streets and then bragged about it to the msm. As dumb and destructive as anything you could accuse Sarah of doing.
After that incident, you lost all credibility with me.
When has Sarah EVER compared heself to Reagan? All that fine lady ever did was to remind people that Reagan, too, was humiliated by the msm for things in his past such as starring in “Bedtime for Bonzo,” being a so-called “B” actor and appearing in television commercials.
Sorry, he's as close to nuts as anyone on this forum has ever been. His insane campaign for Duncan Hunter was just the beginning.
LOL.
Don't answer that. :)
This I like!
Kudos.
Your problem is you have no faith that perceptions can change.
It was just two years ago Obama was winning in a landslide and the Republican party was written off as dead. There were books and articles proclaiming it may go the way of the Whigs...and yet, two years later they won in a landslide of record proportions (thanks in part to Sarah Palin, btw)
Yes, if the election were held today, the damage done by the dishonest left would probably be enough to keep her from winning.
But I don’t believe she should just shut up and sit down. Perceptions can change, especially when they are false perceptions.
I have no illusions of fairness in politics. But I think Sarah Palin has outsmarted her detractors time and time again, and I’m betting she’s doing it again.
It would help if people on our side would retire the circular firing squad, but whatever.
The more she is attacked, the stronger she grows.
I’m not laying down for the establishment pukes any longer. Attacks on her are attacks on me and everything I believe in, so if you bring up lefty lies I will respond with the truth.
These are planned and orchestrated...Rove signaled it weeks ago.
OPERATION STAY HOME PALIN!
Huckaboob or Willard Romney. I don't watch CNN.
Which loser does CNN like best?
May I remind you that Nancy Reagan was pregnant before she married Ronald Reagan. As she said in her book, they were both adults and they made the adult decision to marry and raise the child (although I believe it was a love match, anyway). Two of those kids turned out to be embarrassments to their parents and to themselves.
That’s not the case anymore.
I think he’s a Huck guy
What was their first clue?
That Sarah Palin looks better in a dress than Ronald Reagan...
Why do women have smaller feet than men?

So they can stand closer to the sink when doing the dishes. ;o)
Huckaboob?
LOL. I like that - it fits. ;-)
Even when Lloyd Bentson used it against Quayle, it was pretty lame. Just a scripted one-liner with many in the audience told ahead of time to jump up and applaud.
You’re incorrigible. :)
Yes, Ed Rollins is an old has been crank. He’s one Sarah Palin has no use for and he knows it. He’s old school and rank and a sell-out to CNN for a paycheck. (Can’t fault him for that). Hopefully, he’ll work for Huckaboob again, because that worked out well last time...lol. Rollins’ campaigns are predictable.

In 1958 JFK was re-elected to US Senate - and ran for President and won in 1960 -
JFK quit the US Senate 4 years before his term ended.....
Ho Hum -

On this point we agree. I have NO FAITH when discussing politics. For me, it's plainly about cold-hard reality. Sometimes that reality is uncomfortable, or unpleasant, but it is what it is.
"The more she is attacked, the stronger she grows."
It's a nice cliche, but it doesn't have any foundation in reality. Unlike Reagan and Clinton, Palin hasn't demonstrated any ability to deflect these attacks and redirect them into positive energy. Yes, the people who are predisposed to support her, become even more fervent in their defense of her. But, for the rest of the country, the attacks have taken a withering toll.
Clinton was impeached and became more popular. How is that possible? Palin resigned, and it had the exact opposite effect. Is it fair? Nope. But it is her political reality.
