Editor's note: Ed Rollins, a senior political contributor for CNN, is senior presidential fellow at the Kalikow Center for the Study of the American Presidency at Hofstra University. He is a principal with the Dilenschneider Group, a global public relations firm. He was White House political director for President Ronald Reagan and chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee.
(CNN) -- The first date is over. Not much happened. President Obama and his new governing partners, the House and Senate Republicans, met at the White House along with the Democratic leaders and discussed the unsolvable issues between them.
Even though they made no decisions and both sides went their separate ways, they agreed to start negotiations on extending the tax cuts. That in itself is the beginning of a positive process. They actually talked to each other and talked of a plan for action.
As with real dating, both sides have to get along or nothing will happen. So maybe this situation has more in common with an arranged marriage.
The American voters are the substitute parents, and they want this marriage to work or at least to be civil. And we, the voters, hold the shotgun.

We're way better off with someone like Mitt or McCain or even Castle because an R that votes like a D 90% of the time is still an R 10% of the time, and by golly, 10% good enough for me and my kids! Heck at 10% we're Years away from a true statist paradise!
Not at all; OTOH, your patently ridiculous posts are cake taking winners for posts full of lies and BS !
Reagan would love Sarah, and say she is just like him.
Ed Rollins is an old RINO. HE’s the voice of the dying GOP establishment’s last gasp.

The name "Reagan" is invoked like a magic word.
That's a symptom of the unfortunate state of conservatism these days. So-called conservative politicians are very good at parroting all the right catch-phrases, but when it comes time to applying and defending conservatism, they fail miserably.
Reagan understood what conservatism was all about, and was instrumental in actually defining it.
Few of today's conservatives can claim that depth of understanding. Certainly Sarah Palin doesn't.
They’re afraid she might somehow win the nomination. With her negatives (outside her small core constituency), Obama could probably collect the electoral votes of all 57 states.
Sarah Palin is not stupid. She knows these things. She thinks she can beat Obama. She knows it will be a tough battle. But offering the American people a positive vision and giving them more confidence in the future of our country...CAN WORK.. with all due respect sir..
you are underestimating her
For a person who complains endlessly about perceived sexism, you're quick to post an agist (Is that a word?) comment. Good to know that my vote isn't wanted or needed. Now I don't need to feel guilty about not supporting Palin.
At least Palin has never done things like trying to force vertical aircraft the military didn't want on them to satisfy a big contributor, like your hero Duncan Hunter (aka Duke Cunningham's best buddy).
And what you and the other nay-sayers fail to understand, is that Sarah having a show on TLC, as well as Bristol dancing on DWTS, is her way of getting around all of those lies, smears, and misperceptions that those against her have been putting out for over two years now.
You can’t have it both ways.........no matter how hard you try, nor how pretzel twisted you contort your posts into.
have you read her new book ?
Wow, thanks for the advice, noob. After all, how can one argue with someone named “t-dude?”
It is a strawman argument, used by some here to put her down, saying she does not even “understanding” conservatism.
Of course that poster once said that her only 2 good attributes were her breasts.
please. The Bush and former Reagan people can’t hold onto the GOP forever..
its time to race forward.. not lean forward like the Joe Scarborough show.. RACE forward.
Wow, you flatter me. And just which patently ridiculous posts full of lies and BS would those be? Please, enlighten me.
Let’s add to that ... assume she had national ambitions once she went through the tempering of the Veep process. The RATs had her in check through the complaint process as you outline. So be it, she said, I can get out of that trap and at the same time make it possible for me to spend quality time in the lower 48, which is a unique problem for a candidate from Alaska (or Hawaii). Let’s go back to all the punditry spewing at the time that she was finished, that it was a bad move, that she was crazy. Do their words stand up to the test of time? Crazy like a fox as it has turned out.
Doh!
To me, YOU are a nOOB !
And what that notorious nOOb, t-dude, posts are far better than the crapola you post here.
Of course he hasn’t read her book...he once posted that her only 2 attributes were her breasts.
And since I almost never post on these threads, what crapola would that be?
