A Sigh of Relief for Pork-Loving Republicans

Washington — After his success in elevating conservative contenders in November, will an energized Sen. Jim DeMint (R., S.C.) go after earmark-supporting GOP senators in 2012?

DeMint tells NRO that the Senate Conservatives Fund, his political-action committee, will not meddle in primary challenges against Republican incumbents. “We don’t intend to do that; there is no reason to do that with so many Democratic seats up.”

“I don’t have plans to campaign against any of the ones here,” DeMint says. “That’s between them and their voters.”

DeMint notes that his PAC followed a similar policy last cycle — directing money to primaries in open and Democratic seats.

“Were going to focus on Republican primaries in Democratic seats,” he says. “We’ll pick a few primaries where we have a clearly superior conservative candidate,” and focus resources there.

Just waiting for all the RINO and CINO cries...unless Demint is in the Pain bucket, i.e. untouchable.

Eight Republican senators on Tuesday voted to preserve earmark spending despite pressure from the Tea Party movement.

Sens. Thad Cochran (Miss.), Susan Collins (Maine), James Inhofe (Okla.), Dick Lugar (Ind.), Lisa Murkowski (Alaska) and Richard Shelby (Ala.).

Retiring Sen. George Voinovich (Ohio) and defeated Sen. Bob Bennett (Utah) also voted against it.

Lugar and Collin are up for reelection n 2012 and both need to go.

I have to check on Cochrane. He’s a fossil incumbent, regardless.

I agree with you, but I must say, I am shocked by Inhofe’s vote and yes, I listened to his argument.

BS! Non-leftists will NEVER “let go” of this issue as well as all other anti-conservative issues, and that’s a good thing!

That's just one of the problems with that monstrosity but the bigger problem is philosophical: They believe security is somehow gained by centralization which to me just means “a bigger target”. The only way we can have a reasonable level of security in a free society is through decentralization And philosophies rarely change which means those people need changed.

Jim Demint may follow the tenets of the Tea Party but the pendelum doesn’t necessarily swing both ways. Just because Demint’s PAC won’t go after the RINOS that doesn’t mean the Tea Party won’t. That’s essentially CYA for Demint since he has to work with these people until we can get them out.

It was a stupid question to pose to DeMint and I think he answered brilliantly. Why make an enemies over one vote and before the new Senate is even seated?

Like you said, he has to work these traitorous RINOs and Luag and Collins will have primary challengers and were Pence to challenge Lugar there’s no way DeMint wouldn’t back Pence...lol.
