City to Deploy Ambulances to Save Organs

Some 911 calls in Manhattan will now bring out two ambulances, one hurrying to the scene and one lagging slightly behind.

The first one will try to save the patient’s life. The second one will try to save the patient’s kidneys, in case the first ambulance fails.

After months of grappling with the ethical and legal implications, New York City medical officials are beginning to test a system that they hope will one day greatly increase the number of organs collected for transplant.

For five months starting Wednesday, the city will deploy a specially trained team that will monitor 911 calls for people who may be in danger of dying, like those having a heart attack. If efforts to resuscitate the patient fail, the team will quickly move in and try to save the kidneys; normally, patients who die outside hospitals cannot be donors because if too much time passes after the heart stops beating, the organs are unusable.

City officials said the project would be the first of its kind in the United States, though similar operations have been carried out in Europe. They said that they believed they had solved any ethical problems by adopting what they called very conservative standards for who would qualify as a donor.

To overcome fears that patients would be allowed to die for the sake of their organs, officials said that doctors and paramedics trying to resuscitate a patient would not be told whether the preservation unit was waiting in the wings until a supervisor had given the order to stop rescue efforts. The organ team, which will travel in a bright red and white ambulance marked “Organ Preservation Unit,” is supposed to remain out of sight.

I guess your body belongs to the government, not you.

The individual mandate makes that explicit. You must insure your body, because it doesn't belong to you.

They could use the guillotine for executions and have a steady supply of organs.

Since we are all government owned livestock, I would liken it to a slaughterhouse.

They’ve been working for years to domesticate us so we’ll just march right down the chute without a fight.

Moo.

Oh, that will come.

They will pick a un-pc “hate” group when the financial house of cards implodes, and then watch out!!!! Tea partiers and Christians will be likely targets.

Sometimes a true story, I’m afraid. If you get into a car accident, you don’t get to pick your hospital emergency room or your doctor. You go to the nearest hospital and they do what they think best. Which may not be what you think best.

And if they have an important patient who needs a kidney or a liver right away. . . .

According to the story a donor card or consent from family is still required.

That’s how they’re doing it now. However, it won’t take long before what’s “voluntary” becomes compulsory.

I know quite a few people who take that position.

Motorcyclists are told to NEVER agree to be organ donors because of the temptation.

How do they KNOW the person has not declined to be an organ donor?

What happens when somebody would rather have a dead relative than a living burden? The ghoul waggon fixes that and eliminates the evidence.

what I find creepy is when hospital staff ask the patient to consent to being an organ donor.

Terrific.....

The first team to kill you and make sure you’re freshly dead.

The second team to harvest the organs to ensure it.

Terrific.....

The first team to kill you and make sure you’re freshly dead.

The second team to harvest the organs to ensure it.

It’s a win/win situation under obama care. Fresh organs for the elite, and for the unwashed, no need to decide on rationing healthcare. There’ll be no need for expensive, ongoing or life saving treatment for useless eaters. No extended stays in ICU using up precious resources.

Am I too late to say...

Please tell me this is a really bad attempt at satire. Nevermind, I've seen enough of these ghouls and their bright ideas to know it isn't.

No, I can picture the first ambulance keeping the person alive just long enough for the butchers to arrive.

In the UK (IIRC) they recently made a law or rule or whatever it might be called that unless a person not only opts out of organ donation but carries the opt-out papers upon their person at all times, they will be considered an organ donor.

And of course, the ambulance teams need to FIND the opt-out papers.

I can see the very believable scenario where they are ignored and the teams claim ignorance- they didn't see them, they couldn't find them, they were out of date, they were not properly authorized, etc....

Or that they do find them and the papers just *disappear*, with everyone disavowing knowledge of their existence, except the family who knew that the person had them on them.

But too late once they've done they're ghoulish deed.
