WASHINGTON The State Department severed its computer files from the government's classified network, officials said Tuesday, as U.S. and world leaders tried to clean up from the embarrassing leak that spilled America's sensitive documents onto screens around the globe.

I find it fascinating they didn’t give a snot about the leaks until they started coming from the State Department.
I suppose it’s all classified, but does anyone know when this idiocy got started? It was a huge violation of the “need to know” principle. Classified Documents 101 should be enough to tell anyone not to do put every secret diplomatic file in the world into a system where any corporal with a security clearance could access all of it, and where any hacker could probably download it, too.
What on earth were they thinking?
It made their pathetic bureaucratic lives easier.
Yep. Interesting how no one (in the media) seems to want to point that out either.
ABout two decades ago, our leadership just quit thinking about anything but their next raise.
It’s funny nothing this drastic ever occurred when we weren’t so “sensitive” and politically correct and enforced our laws.
They waited all this time??????
After 9/11, there was this big push to make it easier for different departments and agencies of the government to share information. The thought was that 9/11 could have been stopped with easier communication between the various agencies.
The problem with this is when you break down those communication walls, the information becomes more vulnerable to being intercepted.
>> What on earth were they thinking?
Maybe they *weren’t* thinking.
If I was appointed King one of the first things I would do is execute a massive and ruthless purge of the State Dept.
Now, don’t read too much into that word, “execute”.
...
On second thought, yeah, go ahead and take “execute” literally. :-)
I guess they convened the committee on barn doors.
These people are PATHETIC.
I’m guessing that Obama didn’t bother warning Hillary, or the State Department BEFORE it was all published — it’s not like the WH wasn’t given the opportunity to ask them NOT to publish these files months ago.
Remember when the climate gate files were released? Everyone loved that. And we can thank it for putting the brakes on that scam. Well this is no different in many ways. And everyone acts like the difference is night and day. For 90% of the information it is good that it is exposed.
Good point, but managed communication should have been the goal, and not a contentious divide that left Country more vulnerable than necessary.
>> For 90% of the information it is good that it is exposed.
It may be heretical, but I’m coming around to that point of view myself.
Oh no! The horses have all run out of the barn! Quick! Close the doors!
