A group called the American Atheists has paid for a huge billboard on Route 495 outside the Lincoln Tunnel in North Bergen, N.J., that is raising some eyebrows.

The billboard shows a silhouette of the Three Wise Men approaching the Nativity, with the words: "You KNOW it's a Myth / This Season, Celebrate REASON!"

Purely from an intellectual standpoint, is it fair to call the nativity a "myth". I don't think so. Perhaps - again, intellectually - one could argue that the divinity itself is a "myth", but it seems reasonably certain that a man named Jesus was born somewhere around Bethlehem, in a manner that probably wasn't too far removed from the way it's described in tradition.

Jesus is (at a minimum) quite simply a historical figure - unlike Paul Bunyon or Rip Van Winkle - Jesus lived and there is a historical record, of his birth, his life and his death, hardly the qualities of a "myth".

If atheists are so reason-based, let them consult the nearest atlas of human anatomy, and then proclaim there is no God.

EyeGuy says start with the awesome marvel of miraculously complex design and engineering known as the human eye. A “reasonable” person won’t need to go any further......

Interesting they (the atheists) KNOW it's a myth.

One has to wonder how they know.

BTW, anyone have a count on how many hospitials or missions have been opened by atheists?

Just asking.

"You KNOW it's a Myth / This Season, Celebrate REASON"

A praise of reason preceded by a completely irrational statement. You just can't parody these people - they do a better job themselves in everything they say. At least the old school atheists were able to muster up a coherent, intellectual (albeit wrong) defense for their position.

The medium is the message.

the 1 second passer by will see a pretty picture and possibly register the “know”.

IOW just another nativity scene.

I would imagine that when God creates each of us, He knows whether that person is going to believe in Him or not.

Yea, but you see, all of those cells and DNA just organized itself from random bits of matter swimming around in some pea soup concoction millions of years ago.

Who needs a diety when you have that kind of magic?

The sign actually is part truthful about the myth of the wiseman at the manger scene. Did you know that the wiseman never appeared at the manger? The wiseman appeared at Jesus “house.”

Matthew 2:1-2:

“Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,

Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him.”

However, Matthew 2:11 states that they came to His house:

Matthew 2:11 “And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him...”

And Matthew 2:16 states that Herod had all the children two years and under slain, according to the time he learned from the wise men.

Matthew 2:16 “Then Herod, when he saw that he was mocked of the wise men, was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently inquired of the wise men.”

Therefore it is likely that Jesus was 1 to 2 years old.

I hear this is the latest in their advertising campaign, it follows up on their "Ramaden is BS" billboard.

Oh wait...

Atheism is not reasonable; and neither are most religions.

Exactly. I seem to have missed their billboard during Ramadan talking about the Myths of Islam.

Or, will they only attack "soft targets"?

“If you believe in God, you probably have it made”...

...great quote! I’ll try this with my atheist brother in law when they come to my house for Christmas dinner. (he doesn’t mind it being called “Christmas dinner” when he doesn’t have to pay)

I wouldn't call Christ a soft target. These people have been denying Him for 2000+ years and yet, He still reigns. On the other hand, their, um, lack of vigor, when it comes to attacking certain other religions can best be described as cowardice.

SO why do they care if OTHER PEOPLE want to believe in God?

This is stupid. Don’t they have better things to waste time and money on?

I don’t think so- I suspect Soros is behind this

(really- am not joking)

It’s because Christianity is the Truth.
Atheists wouldn’t attack Islam, because those beliefs, not being the truth, are no threat to them.

Then they prove their ignorance because even archeologists have proven that Christ was born and lived in this time. So by their denying something that has been historically proven they show that they are fools who deny a known and proven fact.
