Obama and Republicans agree to negotiate on taxes

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama said on Tuesday there was still disagreement with Republicans on whether to extend Bush-era tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans and that he asked two top advisers to help negotiate a deal.

Obama said he appointed Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner and budget director Jack Lew to work with congressional Republicans and Democrats to come up with a deal in the coming days to prevent broad tax increases from occurring next year.

"We should work to make sure that taxes will not go up by thousands of dollars on hard-working middle-class Americans come January 1, which would be disastrous for those families but also could be crippling for the economy," Obama told reporters after a meeting with congressional leaders at the White House.

"There was broad agreement that we need to work to get that resolved before the end of the year."

Finding common ground will be tricky.

He said the congressional leaders agreed to appoint members to help in the negotiation process with results expected in "the next couple of days."

If no agreement is reached, all tax-paying Americans would see higher bills next year, which would increase pressure on Washington to act and give Republicans a chance to score a win by making tax cuts their first order of business when taking control of the House of Representatives in January.

Do not negotiate. Demand unconditional surrender!

Meaning Obama is will to accept any compromise Republican’s are stupid enough to agree to.
He’ll maintain his pre-November position and is looking for consessions to be made in his favor.

Absolutely nothing has changed. I find it interesting that the President was able to attend a meeting for two hours and following the meeting was able to write a multi page speech, right after the meeting. He must be a fast writer, or..........the speech was written prior to the meeting.

Yep. Just say no. You don’t raise taxes in an economy like this.

If the Dems in upcoming tough races in 2012 want to seal their own doom, so be it.

What’s the problem, Barry? According to you people Bush never cut taxes for the middle class in the first place.

What troubles me is not what is coming from the anus in charge, it is coming from the GOP leadership. Statements like we are looking for areas of agreement and we are not going to scrap the entire health care bill are two such comments which leave me with my mouth open. What the hell did the GOP asshats think we sent them there to do, agree with (o)bama?

Slime drips from every word that comes out of Obama’s mouth, while the GOP stands there and wets it’s pants like a frightened child.

I’ve had it.

There is no way in hell that America is going to resolve it’s problems with the ballot.... We tried, but it’s just not going to happen.

It was with great hope and cautions relief that I watched the sunset of November 2nd. In the days and weeks since, I have managed to remain cautiously optimistic, even in the face of facts that were unfolding before my eyes.

I truly wanted to believe that we had somehow managed to dodge the bullet and reset the course of America.

As I see it, the GOP was brought back from the grave on November 2nd, only to fumble around until November 30th—when it walked into the White House and promptly committed suicide.

Like I said, I’ve had it.

“Nobel laureate Peter Diamond, a nominee to the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, told Reuters Insider television that extending the tax cuts should be limited to those below the highest income bracket and should be temporary.”

Hey, Peter, you know where you can shove that Nobel Prize, don’tcha? Yeah, I see you smiling already, you flaming piece of Marxist trash.

The “we are not going to scrap the entire health care bill” statement completely disgusted me. From now on I will not ever vote for an incumbent. They cannot be trusted, no matter what the party. I can only hope to keep them confused enough by being newbies that they cannot do too much damage.

NO TAX HIKES.
Time to cut, sorry let me correct that, GUT the Government and have it learn to live within its means as every citizen has too.!

A Flat Tax system with no deductions no waivers no exceptions. Evryone over the defined poverty line pays the same percent of tax. The Government has the means to determine fairly close what the income of Americans is so with a flat tax they wold have a close estimate of what money would be coming to them. Produce a budget within that range.

For the next two years the republicans will be blamed for everything. And probably rightfully so but for the wrong reasons.

Watch the obama and the dems say “Extend UE benefits and we’ll extend the tax cuts”.

Not one (1) single Republican was quoted in the Yahoo Finance story. Not a single Republican has suggested compromise.

I think we can all see where this is heading...

-Obama raises his threshold for being “rich” to $1 mil, and agrees to a long-term (or maybe even perm) extension of the tax cuts for everyone below that.

-He agrees only to a 2 year temporary extension for all those making $1 mil. and up. This sets up a paradigm of tax cuts for millionaires arising again as an issue just before the next election.

-The Dems spend the entire 2012 campaign demagoging Republicans for pushing “tax cuts for the wealthy”.

-Joe and Sally Lunchbucket, having gotten their own tax cut secured, buy into the Democrap propaganda giving Barry his 2nd term.

TAX CUTS FOR ALL or FOR NONE! DO NOT SEPARATE THEM!!!

One thing though: the economy will still be in the tank by that time.
