Yet Gutierrez’s tactics are controversial. While many admire his tenacity and credit him with keeping immigration reform alive, others, including members of the Obama administration, believe his confrontational style can be counterproductive. I may be the only person on this thread who ever met Little Louie, over 25 years ago. He was a community activist who drove a Beemer until his political mentors told him that wasn’t the best way to get elected to an economically depressed area.

Congresista Luis Gutierrez (D. Ill.) is probably one of the most skillful practitioners of the "Chicago Way" in the city's history.

In fact, he has all the requisite seamy creditionals that has made him a successful Democrat Party elected representative for years.

Both he and his extended family live off the public trough through dirty machine politics, nepotism, union thuggery, corruption and pimping the Mexican and Puerto Rican neighborhoods. His crooked history, fraught with arrests, federal investigations, etc., is outlined thoroughly in Wikipedia.

There's probably a slim-to-none ray of hope that the Blago trial will unearth all the monumental corruption surrounding Blago, Gutierrez, Tony Rezko, maybe even community organizer Obama, himself, when it convenes in April, 2011.

Not surprisingly, this marxist/socialist/commie congressman started out as an ethnic "community organizer".

I knew that little piece of sh#t growing up in Chicago not far from Humboldt Park. I used to run into him while he was wearing his “Latin Kings” sweater ( this part of his history has been scrubbed by the way). Always a tough guy, when surrounded by 10 or 15 of his “homies”. Luis is also corrupt, in the old fashioned Chicago way. He has been involved in corrupt insider Chicago real estate deals that would have led to indictment of any white politician. But the cowardly federal prosecutor Fitzgerald is afraid of him. Fitz only indicts pols who have fallen from grace, a la Blago, or small timers, like Daley's chief garbage collector. Pols that still have political support—Schakowsky, Luis, Jesse Jr.—remain untouchable here.
