Willie Nelson was arrested in Sierra Blanca, Texas on Friday for possession of six ounces of pot. As a result, the country music legend faces as many as two years behind bars.
If the Texas prosecutors do not reduce the charges, and the marijuana's weight is indeed six ounces, then he is dealing with felony and a potential minimum of 180 days in a county jail and a maximum of two years, with a $10,000 fine, explained former California-based prosecutor, Robin Sax.
**SNIP**
Nelson, 77, was arrested with one-and-a-half pounds of marijuana and three ounces of hallucinogenic mushrooms on his tour bus in 2006, and nine years before that, police in Waco, Texas spotted a joint in his cars ash tray, prompting another arrest.
Texas is more stringent than California so he could face time. One of the issues that the court and prosecutors will look at is his prior record and given the fact that he has several arrests, even recent ones, for pot related crimes," Sax said. "I would not be surprised if Texas decided to stick it to him."

Saw a thread yesterday where Colorado wants to “regulate” the growth of medicinal marijuana to yield consistant dosage strength.
Willie smokes about 6 ounces a week.

You could shoot Willie in the head... he would still smoke his doobie.

‘Regulate’ is a bad word . . .
Didn't he sing some gay cowboy song just after Brokeback Mountain came out? I suspect we may be seeing more in that genre.
Thanks God this dangerous man is off the street.
Man...when Willie went all outlaw country and Hippie Hollow and Luckenbach after Jerry Jeff and Waylon and Tompall and Townes and all those other guys saw there was music to sell to southern hippies and lots of young girls to pluck in cut off blue jeans with bikini tops, tans and cowboy hats...
Willie really immersed himself in the life didn’t he ...and stuck with it all these years..
sorta fried but very personable...pays special attention to whomever he is talking to like he actually cares about what you are saying
he was such a greaser before the hippies...amazing..
but i tell you what...without Gram Parsons...there woulda never been this remix of country and rock and all that blossomed from that
nosiree
so here’s to ya Gram...forever young and high hoss!
Heh! I saw Keef play with The New Barbarians in about 1980 from about 10’ away. He looked like death warmed over 30 years ago.
Those who say “legalize it and tax the hell out of it” only move the DEA under the ATF.
The power to tax is the power to destroy.
Decriminalization is different from legalization.
Can’t sell it over the counter. Can’t advertise it. Etc etc.
Tobacco cannot be smoked in parks, bus stops, or concert venues. Why do pot smokers think “legal pot” would be afforded protected status?
Decriminalized (but not legalized) pot would not be required to “meet certain industry standards of purity” or “medicinal standards” or other FDA-type inspection/regulation. Even those using vitamins (where purity and effective quality can vary) are wary to let the government dictate how it is manufactured or used.
I'm telling you, they should check both those guy's DNA, because they are not from this planet!
People also forget this fact about Willie: he took up pot to get himself off of alcohol. The guy was a drunk for about two decades before he took up weed. A body that can handle that much abuse cannot be from this world,
Replies to that exclamation practically write themselves.
I’m with you on Gram Parsons... I like what he did with the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers. I like what the Stones did back then under his influence. Eventually he was kicked out of NellCote (where Exile was recorded) for being too stoned for Keith to tolerate
Well, man, To Serve and Protect.
I’m glad they took this dire threat to public safety and law and order off the streets.
Thank God for cops like this.
I feel much safer.
Busted at 77 for pot? Wow, however did the cops figure this out. Must have taken some real top notch police work.
White trash is probably correct but you could not be more wrong on the other charges. I have loved Willie’s music since we both were kids. Even my cell phone ring is “On the Road Again”.
I won’t call you an idiot because you don’t like Willie’s music, some flaw in your Mass. upbringing, I’m guessing. But announcing that you have class and suggesting others don’t....... that makes you a masshole.
I'll refrain from making disparaging remarks about your Texas roots because....I have more class than that.
If one must announce that they have class........ I doubt it.
You should be so talentless...........
Great song....
