WASHINGTON (AP) The White House says the U.S. government is not ruling out the possibility of taking legal action against online whistle-blower WikiLeaks.
White House spokesman Robert Gibbs says the administration is considering several steps following the release of more than a quarter million classified State Department documents. He says there is an ongoing criminal investigation into how the documents were made public.
Gibbs says President Barack Obama was briefed on the size and scope of the document leak by national security aides last week. Gibbs says it would be an understatement to say the president was "not pleased" to hear that the information would be released.
The weekend release of documents reflecting, in some cases, unflattering assessments of world leaders has caused embarrassment to the administration.

WASHINGTON (AP) Bristling over the unauthorized release of more than a quarter million classified State Department documents, the Obama White House on Monday ordered a government-wide review of how agencies safeguard sensitive information.
Soon after, Attorney General Eric Holder told reporters at the Justice Department that the administration would prosecute if violations of federal law are found in a criminal investigation of the incident.
The weekend release of documents reflecting, in some cases, unflattering assessments of world leaders has caused embarrassment to the administration. This is the first Obama is hearing about WikiLeaks?????
save the energy and cost. They won’t do anything except posture while they use this as an excuse to exert control over the internet.
Well, I think the Secretary of State would need access to all diplomatic traffic; wouldn't you think?
Oh sure, when you are orchestrating the thing. Just saying
NO, not to have 250,000 classified documents at her desk. Nor more tha Gates has access to the thousands of classified docs in the DoD. Only a few members of Congress are cleared to have access or be briefed to some intel. Remember Leaky Leahy? DoD still clears who in Congress can be briefed on what.
When the Afghani informants against the Taliban, revealed in the leaked documents, are slaughtered along with their families, how long do you think Assange will continue breathing God's good air?
Assange's longevity is very short IMHO.
The Saudi National Intel Agency will likely take care of him, if the Afghanis do not.Assange is now living on borrowed time.
Holder, BTW, is an idiot. He thinks America does not know that Obama is playing both sides against the middle on this to forward his fascist agenda of ruining the US military. This is Obama's goal. Patreus was making too much headway.Obama and his world wide fascist/leftist agitator organisation has found a way to keep Afghanistan from liberation.
Eric Holder has spent the past two years working full-time on wringing his hands on the venue of the Guatanomo prisoner trials. No doubt it will take him a number of years to ponder what to do about this Wikileaks situation. He was quick to indict the American public as a “nation of cowards,” yet is indecisive and ineffectual about virtually everything else.
