Mr Al Baker was also dismissive of the Bombardier C-Series planes

Have you seen the commemorative stamps “Qatar, leader in aviation technology?”

....you never will.

Qatar Air is a great airlines, one of the top five in the world.
They are without a doubt, the only way to fly from Europe to the Philippines.
I have made the trip twice from Vienna.
One can fly from most any large city in Europe, direct to Cebu, with only a plane change in Doha.
For about 20 bucks, you can get into the first class lounge in Doha, and get all you can drink and eat, as well as WiFi, while you wait for the continuation on to Cebu.

Since all new aircraft are designed on computers, how could they have problems fitting parts?

Al Baker is maneuvering for a discount.

This is standard procedure by airlines in order to extract even further concessions on top of what they have already likely received.

It is never good when your customer starts talking about you using the word failure.

On the other hand I don't get the A380 -vs- Dreamliner thing. The two planes don't appear to be competitors based on passenger capacity. They don't appear to be competing for the same routes. If you can fill an A380 then you shouldn't be running a Dreamliner. But if you have a Dreamliner's passengers in the seats of an A380 you are going to lose money every time the wheels come of the ground.

Qatar is an Airbus investor.

Al Bakar has done a good job with Qatar Airways, I have to admit, but his assessment of the 787 is way off the mark. I think he is spreading FUD to enhance the value of their HUGE A350 order.

Hmmmm...I don’t seem to recall any stories about Dreamliner engines blowing up in flight.

BBC headline seems very misleading. Baker certainly did not say that the 787 itself is a failure.

Well, I say screw Qatar. Latest round of WikiLeaks docs indicate that the country funds Jihadist terrorist organizations. Qatar should be under economic sanctions as far as I am concerned.

Not a failure, but mistakes galore played out by Boeing. Amazing how inept this company is! Heads need to roll over this!

Composite aircraft are going to have to aquire a lot of airtime before I get on one.

Mr. Lear built one with composite wings, the FAA wouldn’t cert it, so he had it out front on display. When he notice the sun had oxidized the paint he got some guys to help push it into the hanger for a waxing. Everywhere they pushed on the wings and nose cone, the carbon composite crumbled to dust, after one year in the sun.

Then there is that thing Raytheon built.

On second thought, I just don’t think I will ever take a ride on one.

As I said in the other thread from a few days ago...First of all, this guy Baker is a hack who’s trying to outdo airlines like Emirates, who between them have ordered enough airplanes to saturate the market several times over. He needs to worry about where the millions of passengers are going to come from that will keep his airline in business along with the plethora of airlines in his backyard that have all gone on buying sprees in the last decade. He expects airlines like the European nationals and Qantas to just lay down for him....that was also a main reason for his diatribe. And secondly, he has always been an Airbus man...go ahead and order some more A380s, there certainly hasn’t been any problems with that model of late...not to mention it too was severely delayed, just as the A350 will be.
