The investigative arm of the Homeland Security Department appears to be shutting down websites that facilitate copyright infringement.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has seized dozens of domain names over the past few days, according to TorrentFreak.
ICE appears to be targeting sites that help Internet users download copyrighted music, as well as sites that sell bootleg goods, such as fake designer handbags.
The sites are replaced with a note from the government: "This domain named has been seized by ICE, Homeland Security Investigations."
For instance, 2009jersey.com, 51607.com, and amoyhy.com have each been seized.
One of the site owners told TorrentFreak that his site was shut down without any notice or warning.
The effort come as Congress considers the Combatting Online Infringement and Counterfeits Act (COICA). Critics, including Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) say it is too heavy-handed. He has vowed to put a formal hold on the bill.
Did they shut down any terrorists/islamists/calling Jihad on us websites yet?
Watch our Blu-Rays and play Farmville.
>>And ICE has jurisdiction over music and knockoffswhy?
obviously, because it is phase 1... No one will complain about this.
Then on to phase 2, 3, 4, etc... Slippery Slope
How is it that a government agency called Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) can claim the authority to arbitrarily take over private website domains, yet doesn’t do a damn thing to actually enforce anything involving illegal immigration???
The federal government has become a sworn and bitter enemy of the American people.
“Did they shut down any terrorists/islamists/calling Jihad on us websites yet?”

Nope, because that’s pretty much the only thing this despicably evil administration considers “protected” under the First Amendment.
Well, when it comes to fraud, thievery, embezzlement, looting, extortion, defrauding, cheating, etc...etc... the Government of the USA doesn’t like competition, real or not. It also doesn’t like detractors, and that’s the next step, I fear. I’d have never thought we would fall so fast and hard, though.
Of course,(at this point) we've heard of no elected representative who has stood up to decry this assumption of regulatory authority.
October 26, 2001, when the Patriot Act was signed.
Of course,(at this point) we've heard of no elected representative who has stood up to decry this assumption of regulatory authority.
They all want the same power.
The face that launched a thousand ships, because it was used as a substitute for a champagne bottle. Ugh.
Of course,(at this point) we’ve heard of no elected representative who has stood up to decry this assumption of regulatory authority.
Well, Ron Paul has been an unrelenting critic of this sort of regulation for several decades.
Change your settings. Don’t allow MS to download any updates. Set it to notify you when there are updates. Then you can choose what you want downloaded and installed and IF you even want those updates.
Within the next few months I'm going to give up and stop cable - and with it FOXNews. I have netflix - and can get local channels over the air... It's sad, but it's time.
TV is a cancer. You'll feel better for having given it up. That includes local broadcast, by the way.
Watch an occasional movie, and read more books (and Mark Steyn articles). You'll be better, stronger, faster, and smarter. (Cue up $6M Man theme song)
WAKE UP PEOPLE!!!!
The choir is awake. What has anyone done to get in the face of the majority of the populous who is uninvolved and doesn't care because reality TV comes first?
Nothing will change until they change.
Here’s one.
Yet another test run. If you haven’t figured out yet that your government is preparing to go ‘soviet’, then you haven’t been paying attention.
I know, I know, “It can’t happen here in the USA.”, and yet, it is.
Right now it’s groping/disease spreading/radiation at the airports, socialized medicine, excruciating confiscation/redistribution of your paycheck, “net neutrality”, increasingly oppressive regulation, ad infinitum, etc., but what will life be like in the “land of the free” in another ten years?
This is indeed the beginning of the end of your country, Americans. Wake up, and fight back, or lose it.
I 100% agree!
Yes and noted, however am thinking it is just people are so fed up and there IS a sense that whatever they say and do politically is not getting the job done of stopping the insanity in our Government. Most are willing to wait and see how the republican foothold in congress will act. I think much will be determined by how they do or do not fight. Many will hold their feet to the fire but there isn’t the time to do more than stop some of the measures being taken by BO and the Democrates....2012 seems along way off for how fast they are moving their agendas.
Which raises the question, when will they shut down their IPs?
