I don’t believe he’s guilty but the jury verdict stands. I hope/pray he wins on appeal.

Regardless, this presents an opportunity to prosecute numerous Demo0crats for similar and worse abuses or the system. Failure to do that negates efforts to ‘clean up’ congress and hold them accountable. IF Delay can be convicted on such flimsy evidence, surly Pelosi, Franks, Dodd, Reid and others deserve similar scrutiny.

Especially since the current Congress is raiding the national treasury to the tune of trillions of dollars with no consequence.

The al-qaida terrorist convicted of one of 284 counts last week will likely get a 20-30 year sentence, while DeLay could get 99. WTF?

Which means that Charlie Rangel could be sentenced to what, a couple of hours picking up trash around the Capitol?

I can’t believe he was actually convicted.

This problem isn't confined to Tom Delay. I have no idea if he's guilty or not. Let's stipulate that he is, just for argument's sake. Is this "crime" (if it's a crime at all), worth 99-years? Of course not.

This is a reflection of a runaway legislature (federal and state), criminalizing everything under the sun. Should campaign finance laws exist? Perhaps. Should they be crimes - as in illegalities that can send you to prison? No effing way. At best, this is a civil matter that should be punished in fines, disbarment, impeachment and prohibition against seeking elected office. Not everything that is illegal, has to come with a criminal penalty.

We should leave room in our prisons for people who should be there - rapists, robbers, murderers and the like. We don't have the time, money, or space to put politicians in jail, who at best, are guilty of raising money.

And Rangel only gets a NO NO slap, and continues on.

The Austin news said the jury couldn’t come to a decision until the judge told them he’d make them stay through the holidays. Pronto, a guilty verdict.

They showed the jury leaving and many were long haired hippie freaks past their prime. Typical Austin. Can you say liberals?

How could the system be this wrong?

It seems I remember that he was indicted for something that was legal at the time, but illegal AFTER he did the action.

It seems like he is completely innocent to me, but even if he wasn’t, why up to 99 years????
