President Obama is "outraged" by North Korea's attack on a South Korean island, White House deputy press secretary Bill Burton said Tuesday.

Obama plans to call South Korea's president, Lee Myung-bak, on Tuesday, Burton said, adding that Tom Donilon, his national security adviser, called Obama at 3:55 a.m. to tell him of the attack.

"The president is outraged by this action," he told reporters on Air Force One. "We stand shoulder to shoulder with South Korea."

"We stand shoulder to shoulder with South Korea."

Oh yea, just like Jimmy Carter stood shoulder to shoulder with Shapour Bakhtiar, Prime Minister of Iran after the fall of the Shah.

Anybody remember that?

Jimmy backed down like a coward after Ayatollah Khomeni arrived a couple weeks later to topple Bakhtiar. Somehow, shoulder to shoulder has no meaning to me when coming from a Democrat President.

Our troops who were getting shot at frequently would think the difference is a little more than semantic.

Right, but in the context of this discussion, I don't think it is.

We either are paying for a large share of SK's defense, or we aren't. You think, apparently, that so long as the troops aren't within pissing distance of the actual boarder, we aren't spending any money there. My common sense demands that I think otherwise.

“We stand shoulder to shoulder with South Korea.”

Translation = “Now don`t do anything silly like trying to defend yourselves. After all, they claim the island is their territory, too.”

Obummer finally got his 3AM phone call. He’s outraged that someone woke him up and that now he has to call S Korea’s President Lee Myung-bak to tell him he’s on his own.

You're right, I don't care nearly as much about the money spent, as I do about our troops.

Great, then you should be all for getting our troops the hell out of South Korea. If South Korea is worried about NK, maybe they can start trading a little more freely with us. Until then, good luck, IMHO.

By the way, my son is a marine stationed in Okinawa.

Obama would soil himself if we got into a war with anyone but the Taliban. If North Korea attacked the South, I bet he would no reinforce the US troops already there. They would be dead to him.

One wonders that maybe he is really outraged by South Korea’s actions. “How dare they retaliate against NK after getting shelled! I mean SK needs to work with NK for a path to peace.”

Plans to call him on Tuesday? When this story posted at 12:11 pm EST, it was already Wednesday in Seoul. It wasn't nearly this bad during the Carter years, but I am actually embarrassed to be an American knowing that this lazy, worthless imbecile is my President. South Korea now knows that they are on their own to face North Korea and China. Japan cannot be very happy about this either. It will take decades to repair the damage that is being done by this imposter in the White House.
