After setting a TLC ratings record last week, Sarah Palin's reality show plummeted for its second episode.
Sarah Palin's Alaska fell 40% on Sunday night to 3 million viewers.
Not many were in the key adult demo either. Only 885,000 viewers were ages 18-49, dropping 44% from last week.
In fact, the median age of the show is 57 -- that's 15 years older than TLC's average.
TLC expected a ratings drop coming off the high-flying premiere; executives realized some of their numbers were driven by sheer curiosity rather than eagerness to see an Alaska-based travelogue reality show. Competition from Sunday Night Football and the American Music Awards may have impacted the numbers as well.
"We are very happy with the ongoing strength of Sarah Palin's Alaska, and it continues to drive big ratings gains for TLC," said a network spokesperson, who noted Conan had a similar drop.
Tonight, Bristol Palin will be on the Dancing With the Stars finale and there should be no shortage of viewers there given the controversy surrounding her improbable continued
I dont know what this means.
It is not what you think. It has nothing to do with sex.
This has nothing to do with Palin winning or not winning...but did it ever dawn on you that the people that watch her on TV, might also be the same folks that are FB friends or buy the book, i.e. you might have just counted the same person 3 times. Obama won with 65 million votes, btw.
I suspect people tuned into the first show on Sunday because they wanted to make sure they saw it. When it became apparent that TLC was going to rebroadcast the show over the upcoming week at different times; the audience has drifted off to time slots most convenient for them. “I can watch that Lakers game live; Sarah’s show will be on again Wednesday at 7.” It would be interesting to see TOTAL numbers for the first episode vs. the second.
Sarah Palin’s... Ratings Plummet

Awwww, ain’t that a cute, loaded phrase.
Sure to cause raging tumescence in the little peglets of those in Palin Hater land.
...stirring, stirring, as the buzzing of the hornets in the nest reaches a crescendo...
Considering that was the highest-rated football game of the SEASON, that is probably correct. I myself skipped her show to watch Vick's followup.
...without a TV program...
“I flipped it on during the commercials and couldnt believe the slutty looking, no-class women on that show.”

It hip to be a ho.
And talk like a semi-civilized savage.
What do you mean “without a TV program?” He had every public news broadcast, many cable news programs, MTV all the time, BET, etc.
That, and his giggle when Bristol told Sarah to get away with her Prom Hair!!!! That tickled me!!!! They are all PRECIOUS!!!
I didn’t watch it, because I planned to watch the rerun later this week. There are probably quite a few who did the same thing.
I guess I am not much of a reality show person.
I don’t watch Kate Plus Eight, the Kardashians, Survivor, Temptation Island, the bachelor show, or any of the others.
And I won’t watch this one again. Like I said, too much reality show for me, not enough Alaska.
I stand corrected. Thank you Sir!
3 millions viewers is just fine....look at some of the other rating on TLC
I agree ... it’s silly to the point it’s unwatchable for anyone but the staunchest Palin koolaiders.. I had to change channels half way through the halibut part.. lets drive a hundred miles on a bus ride to watch Bristol try to hit a fish in the head with a bat... let’s see if Bristol can hit a clay pidgeon after the 20th pull... with Sarah non stop talking the whole time
I’d watch it if it was called Todd Palin’s Alaska and it was him and his buddies really fishing(not that fake fishing while the bears ran around), snow mobiling, flying and hunting in beautiful Alaska ala American Sportsman
hear hear, and there is a segment coming up next week when Sarah cries a little talking about Trig, and it damn near tore my heart out, what a wonderful wonderful woman......be warned.....when that part comes up next week, America will cry with her......
I had a Mom that great, and I thank God for her every night....
Aren't FReepers adult enough to read negative articles without playing "shoot the messenger"?
What do you expect? Half the people in the country are stuck in line at the airport, waiting for their rub-down.
The Hollywood Reporter has not yet been blocked as an unwelcome source on FR.
Other People were watching the Sunday Night Football Game, and others were watching the Music Awards show. Sounds like with that Competition alone it was a great showing.
