NJ radio station urges Gov. Christie to ‘Free Brian Aitken’

A web page headlined by radio personalities Dennis & Michele on New Jersey 101.5 FM Radio has posted an appeal to Gov. Chris Christie to grant clemency to gun owner Brian Aitken, who was imprisoned for gun possession while moving between residences—something supposedly legal under both federal and New Jersey laws.

CALL TO ACTION!

Brian's lawyer is requesting Gov. Christie to commute Brian's sentence. The more letters he gets requesting clemency, the better! Please show your support and ask Gov. Christie to Free Brian Aitken, via e-mail or snail mail:

A parallel petition effort is also underway at the New Jersey Second Amendment Society. Click here for more information, and click here to print out copies of their petition, designed to obtain multiple signatures.

The report I read about it last week, the lawyer’s strategy was to try for a pardon before taking the case as appeal, because it would clear him without the added cost.

If that didnt work, they would appeal.

Articles state that after talking to Brian, the cops searched his car and found the guns in the trunk.

I thought the cops needed a warrant to search the trunk. Did Brian grant permission, or could the cops claim “probable cause?”

Not sure about this.

I thought in the original article the mom told cops he had a gun.

She did. But did Brian give his consent for them to search the car, or did the mom's statements justify their search?

Her statements were probably enough, Im not familiar with NJ police (Im in Tx), but if the cops were called to a “domestic” situation, and one party mentions a gun, it seems like it is pretty much over.

Also, I believe the cops said they believed he was moving because of the stuff in the car, but the judge wouldnt allow it.

The NRA Civil Rights Defense Fund provided a grant of $7500.

Is Free Republic going to match that amount since there over forty anti-NRA threads calling for members to quit?
