N. Korea fires artillery towards S. Korean island, official says

SEOUL, Nov. 23 (Yonhap) -- North Korea on Tuesday fired several rounds of artillery towards South Korean waters and an island near the tense west sea border, the South's military said.

The North's artillery shells fell at 2:34 p.m. in the South's waters off the island of Yeonpyeong, some of them landing directly on the island, said Col. Lee Bung-woo, spokesman at the South's Joint Chiefs of Staff. The South's military responded with its artillery firing.

4. Napolitano, Holder and other clowns will be told to STFU on this. Hillary! will be placed in charge, and she'll have enough brains to listen to Gates (if that doesn't happen, watch for some interesting things come out about the Obamas).

GATES? He is a joke I'd rather have Hillary run the Dept of Defense than Gates. All he seems to care about is Don't ask, don't tell.

Get Petraeus or another real General. Gates makes me sick.

Right. He is not talking at the moment, but the whole press(including conservative daily) turned on him for embarrassing flip flops regarding his comments on how to respond.

Borrowing an expression a messenger duck used in Kungfu Panda,
"He is so very very dead politically."

Nobody in SK would take him seriously from now on.

” Nobody in SK would take him seriously from now on. “

Well, isn’t that just special!!

Three ‘heads of state’ involved in this crisis, and nobody takes *any* of ‘em seriously....

This thing may spiral out of control just due to pure political ineptitude on *everybody’s* part - and not an adult in sight to provide any guidance.... (Or send ‘em to their rooms - whatever....)

Thank you very much for all your reportage.

It’s hard to believe that no civilians were killed, although I hope that is the case.

Sounds like how World War I got started.

See my post #507.

NO Cheers, unfortunately.

There is a report of some civilians “unaccounted for.” It is such a chaos that nobody can keep track of individuals’ movement during the shelling.
There will be head counting later and search for missing persons if necessary.

” Sounds like how World War I got started. “

YEah - that thought has crossed my mind, too — the geopolitical and tactical situations aren’t analagous, but the venality and incompetence of the ‘main players’ sure strikes a familiar chord, doesn’t it??

Thank you. I haven’t read (or don’t remember, I was reading the threads last night as the topic started on FR) what time it was in SK when this happened.

Will you please provide us with more details with links? I am curious about the general mood of the people over there and how Lee is perceived in reality and would like to read about it.
