Fred Barnes: Governor Palin the "Most Solidly Conservative Possibility with a Tremendous Following"
Conservatives4Palin ^ | 11/21/2010 | Ian Lazaran

Fred Barnes seems to have reversed his opinion on Governor Palin's presidential prospects. He said the following at the non-partisan Alabama Policy Institute:

When moderator and API president Gary Palmer asked the panelists for their take on potential 2012 presidential candidates, Moore brought up the names Chris Christie, Paul Ryan and Mike Pence. “Moore forgot Sarah Palin!” exclaimed Barnes, who said that Palin is the most solidly conservative possibility with a tremendous following.

While he considered Jim DeMint to also be a good potential candidate, Barnes said “Never underestimate Sarah Palin.”

The Establishment Fourth Estate is beginning to acknowledge what is becoming increasingly inevitable: Sarah Palin is highly likely to become the GOP nominee and is well positioned to become the 45th President of the United States.

Pollster Kellyanne Fitzpatrick Conway also had some perceptive advice for the crowd at this forum:

"Please don’t rush to find a nominee,” advised Conway, “come up with a job description for president and force these job aspirants to audition for the role.”

She encouraged Republicans to have a competitive primary and not get lost in the superficial notion of win-ability.

“Don’t ask who can win. Ask who can lead.”

If the question is: "Who can lead?", then the answer is obvious.

Gald he came around, but who cares what the amnesty loving, “Beltway Boy” Fred Barnes thinks anyways?

I never heard of Paul Ryan. And while I rather like Governor Christie, he is NOT a conservative. Mike Pence is a good guy. But I don’t think he’s electable.

Barnes’ mention of SP as a potential aside is a quisling media sychophant who will subtly turn on her in a heartbeat. NONE of these former ITB (Inside the Beltway) quislings matter any more and they need to be ostracized by conservatives. It’s all a trick; he’s no conservative or open-minded for that matter. He’s just working the spillover to the other side of the media fence. Screw them all. Every One.

I'm a Sarah supporter and I like Barnes but this is a rather inane statement by Barnes...
"superficial notion of win-ability"
No winnee...no leadee!

A lot will depend on our horrifying primary nominating process and whatever tricks the establish try to use to rig the thing.

Her initial debut was a disaster. (There I said it and I'll be shocked if I don't get flamed.) A venomethtly anti-conservative press coupled with entering a presidential race without significant national level experience (i.e. McCain and Biden) or a two year warm up (Obama)...well of course she was going to shellacked by the Dem's and MSM.

BUT, she has taken her lessons to heart and has made a lot of headway. There's still a lot of work left to do with RINOs and independents but it seems attainable. The opposition knows it to, that why the heat is still on her.

Why does Christie’s name keep coming up? I know he’s about as conservative as we’re going to get in New Jersey, like
Scott Brown in Massachusetts, and is pro-life. But other than that and his admirable fiscal toughness, he’s for amnesty, cap-and-trade, and is a typical northeastern gun-grabber. I like Christie where he is, but I’m afraid he’s an all-to-typical big-government northeastern Republican who would turn off too many of the GOP bsse. Christie securing the GOP nod could well prompt a third-party run by a more conservative candidate and guarantee four more years of Obama.

I’m with several other commenters: let’s have a good, robust primary and see who demonstrates the leadership skills and electability. I could easily support and vote for Palin, or DeMint, and possibly other candidates not yet emerging.
