It's now certain: Ellmers won

WASHINGTON -- After a weeklong recount, Friday's vote tally showed that Republican Renee Ellmers did, indeed, win election to the 2nd Congressional District seat that had been held for 14 years by Democrat Bob Etheridge.

Etheridge acknowledged Friday afternoon what the numbers had said since Nov. 2, that he was ousted by Ellmers, a tea party darling and political newcomer.

Despite the ongoing recount, Ellmers has been acting the role of congresswoman-elect. She was on Capitol Hill all week with other House freshmen, attending orientations, hiring staff and searching for a place to bunk in Washington.

"The combination of the national tide that swept the country, massive amounts of secret corporate cash funding a campaign of distortions, and dirty politics by Washington, D.C., partisan operatives was just too much to overcome,"

The Who-Man from Who-terville must think he's swimming in a river in Egypt!

So glad to see Etheridge go. I only hope we can boot out Brad Miller in ‘12.

The fact Ethridge turned into a big spending Liberal is what killed his chances in Rural NC. Add the fact he’s been walking around grabbing innocent bystanders on the street.. you almost wonder why he thought he had a chance at all!

"The combination of the national tide that swept the country, massive amounts of secret corporate cash funding a campaign of distortions, and dirty politics by Washington, D.C., partisan operatives was just too much to overcome," Etheridge said. "But what's done is done."

It sounds like he was describing his own campaign. His television commercials forced me to automatically mute every commercial break. Especially his description of Ellmers' stance on the flat tax; his ad suggested she was advocating a 23% tax increase and then in little tiny fine print in the bottom stating that the number came from a flat tax advocacy group's website.

Another elitist totalitarian POS bites the dust.

Actually I think he physically assaulted a college kid who asked him a question that he didn’t like on the street on Capitol Hill.

Uh...not exactly.

The Republican Party Establishment, as evidenced by Delaware, would much prefer a Democrat to win than a Tea Party backed Republican.

In addition, they will gladly resort to fraud and outright theft as evidenced by the happenings in Alaska, to keep a Tea Party backed candidate from winning.

The evidence and facts are clear, the Tea Party, not the Democrat Party is who the Republican Party opposes. To the Republican Party Establishment, a Tea Party backed candidate is as popular as a crack whore at one of their Country Club socials.

If the Conservative movement is to survive, they are going to have to ignore the nay sayers, who say “We need numbers, not principles”. Get the principles and the numbers will follow. And form their own Party.

This will mean that there will be three political parties, correct? No. This will cause the Republican Party Establishment to merge with the Democrat Party where their hearts and sympathies already are and we will be back to a two party system again.America lovers and American haters.

BTW, touching someone is legally ASSAULT. How did he escape prosecution?

“The balance of power among the state delegation now stands at seven Democrats, six Republicans.”

This is North Carolina, the balance should be more like 10 Reps and 3 Dems. There are still a LOT more seats available to us.

Congratulations!!!!!!!!!!
And congratulations to the fine people of the district who have battled back against the infringement of their freedom.
Congratulations to the voters who came out to throw off the chains of their ruler.
Let freedom ring!

A lot of us were asking that then. John Edwards was right, just not in the way he intended. There ARE two Americas. One for the Ruling Class like this guy, and another for those of us who have to pay for it all.
