NASHVILLE - A Davidson County judge ruled Friday that the state's lethal injection method is unconstitutional, paving the way for a delay in the execution of death row inmate Stephen Michael West.
A final decision on the issue will be made by the state Supreme Court, which technically must issue a stay for the execution to be delayed. Sharon Curtis-Flair, a spokeswoman for the state attorney general, said an appeal is likely.
Chancellor Claudia Bonnyman ruled that West's lawyers showed that Tennessee's lethal injection procedure "allows for death by suffocation while conscious."

Put a noose around his neck and throw him down an elevator shaft.
>>Tennessee’s lethal injection procedure “allows for death by suffocation while conscious.”<<
So? What’s the problem? Maybe a noose would be better? Smashing the head in a press might do the trick but it’s pretty messy.
One problem is that we just had a guy on Death Row who’s sentence was overturned by the 6th Circuit because the lead Detective lied in the case, threatened a witness and withheld evidence that would have proved his innocents.
Plus we have a murder case/death penalty trial that the prosecutor has asked the judge to dismiss in which the lead Detective was just fired from the Police Dept for a history of all kinds of misconduct that goes back about 5 years.
The Innocence Project has set up shop and is looking at the convictions of those on Death Row...
So I’m sure that was in the Judges mind as well...
In the prehanging days, they used to nail people on a cross. Maybe this could be suggested.
In early evening, Jack Romines arrived home to find his wife in their bedroom, dead from torturous knife wounds and fatal jab wounds. Her hands had been bound behind her back. He discovered his daughter in her bedroom. She had been bound, raped and stabbed 17 times. Fourteen of those wounds were considered "torture cuts" by the medical examiner. "All this happened to each one of them in front of the other, which made it awful...." - knoxnews.com
.22 in the temple works well, only cost a couple pennies too
Martin was arrested within hours after a pal turned snitch, telling authorities the teenager had borrowed a butcher knife hours before the killings and returned with a bag of incriminating evidence, including a bloody glove.
Martin immediately blamed West.
West initially insisted he had consensual sex with Sheila and left. He claimed Martin returned to the Romines home long enough to have slain the pair. But in a series of statements to investigators and, ultimately, at trial, West conceded he was present when the Romines women were tortured, raped and slain. He even confessed that Wanda Romines had been forced to perform oral sex on him, and Sheila forced into vaginal sex.
But he contended it was Martin who orchestrated and carried out the evil deeds. The crux of his defense at his trial a year later was that Martin lorded over him, threatening to kill him and his pregnant wife.
"West was 23 years old," Phillips said. "He was six years older than Martin. He was a considerably larger person than Martin. His claim he was under Martin's control is ridiculous."
At trial, Phillips noted that West was 6 feet 1 inch tall, weighed 170 pounds and had spent three years in the military. Martin was 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighed 140 pounds.
The late Cleland Blake, then chief medical examiner, opined that two knives were used to butcher the women and insisted that it would have taken two men, fully participating, to carry out the crimes.
These crimes took place back in 1986. This perps been alive for 23 years too long already.
Yeah! Go easy on the criminals, forget the victims!
“By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil.” (Proverbs 16:6)
“Also to punish the just is not good, .....” (Proverbs 17:26a)
“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.” (Romans 13:1)Then read 13:2-6)
Then I guess they will just have to re-execute the previous three.
lethally inject a bullet into the creeps head.
Nice set of Scriptures. Now, how do they line up considering the 40 (50?) millions of innocent humans who have lost their lives “legally” by the state through abortion?
In light of the abortion holocaust, I struggle with whether we as a nation have the moral legitimacy to take the life of a guilty criminal.
Really? Do you advocate the death penalty for the women who have the abortion?
Is being an accessory to murder a crime?
Off with her head......
We need to be rid of such offensive vermin
Why don’t we deter murderers by making them die in the same horrific manner and in the same length of time that their victims suffered in a public execution.
That’s really an “eye for an eye.”
They get off too easy by hanging, electrocution or injection. Make them suffer just like the poor victims they killed.
Something like public executions would certainly make them think before doing the crime.
Is this guy guilty as charged? IF guilty of a capitol crime.
IT is the duty of the State to execute. We were founded a Christian nation. And in that volume of Sacred Writings
known as the Holy Bible it is written Thou shalt not suffer a murderer to live.” The State determines the manner of execution. Injection sounds more humane than whatever method
chosen by the murderer whose vic seems to have been denied
the very rights the bleeding hearts insist be granted the convict on death row.
I hear Obama was raised by communists maybe we could shoot
the guy and charge his surviving kin with the cost of the live
ammo— and if they choose not to claim the body -add it to the burn pit used for contaminated waste.
