Gov. 'Blackjack' Perry?

Border: As lawlessness spreads in Mexico, the governor of Texas speaks of sending in U.S. troops — a dramatic statement underscoring the fact that the region needs help and isn't getting it.

Attending a conference of governors in San Diego on Thursday, Rick Perry startled some by saying defeating Mexico's cartels may require U.S. military intervention.

"You have a situation on the border where American citizens are being killed," he told MSNBC. "I think we have to use every aspect of law enforcement that we have, including the military. I think you have the same situation as you had in Colombia. Obviously, Mexico has to approve any type of assistance that we can give them."

That may sound extreme, but it underlines that Washington has shortchanged Mexico on even military aid that would help it win its drug war. It has also done little for border states such as Texas and Arizona that bear the brunt of the war, other than deliver lawsuits.

To Washington, the only motive for states' efforts to resist the violent drug cartels is racism, not security.

But Perry knows what he's talking about.

A day earlier, spillover from the war in Mexico took on a quite literal meaning when a dead body clad in cartel-style combat gear washed up on the U.S. bank of the Rio Grande near Salineno, Texas.

According to the Monitor daily in McAllen, police had no idea who he was. But it's likely he's another hash mark to the 31,000-plus death toll of Mexico's war since 2006.

Lordy—I shall not vote for him! I think he’s a skank, albeit with good hair.

He should long ago have sent the Texas Rangers to close our border, IMHO.

We Texans, like Arizonians can’t expect any help from our government.

Along with the fact that 0 hates Perry and Brewer, this administration would rather give all our money to foreign countries, take expensive vacations, have almost nightly parties at the WH, fly themselves and their families everywhere and as I understand it, keep fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan all 0’s friends take over our country.

Where are all the ‘peace not war’ idiots nowadays? Oh, they’re protesting against the border security.

“Los Zetas want Mier for reasons barbarian marauders do — the town sits at a strategic choke point of highways to large cities on both sides of the border. Whoever controls Mier controls routes to them. The Zetas, made up largely of Mexican military renegades, think in military terms.

That’s why Mier and this region keep coming up in the news.”

If you look at the election map of 2008 and 2012, you will find that the democrats control all of the counties along the major drug and illegal alien routes into the US. In Texas, they control the major drug routes all along the I35 corridor to Austin. Just a coincidence? I don’t think so.

Are dem campaign coffers getting mexican cartel drug money or are democrats getting elected along the border because they are weak on immigration enforcement?

You be the judge.

Puhleeeze.... Americans have quite enough of presidents from Texas for the foreseeable future. Poppy and Dubya saw to that.

About the only good thing I can say about Perry, is that when conservatives apply maximum pressure, he bends to our will. Other than that, he's a typical politico.

Actually there is something to this suggestion.
The first time I heard someone suggest this I was shocked. It was an Hispanic friend and he was serious. He still is.
I asked him why he felt this way and we had a long discussion about it. I walked away with a totally different perspective.
He feels that the Mexican government will never be able to solve this armed insurrection and establish peace. Although he is a citizen of the USA he was born in northern Mexico and still has a lot of family in the border area. They are living in a war zone without any kind of protection from any law enforcement agency local or federal. He feels that they only prospect for defeating the drug armies is for the US military to occupy that area and eliminate the armed drug mobs. He does not believe that the Mexican government has the ability to get the job done. He also does not believe that any of the drug gangs are going to just go away. They must be engaged and killed. In his mind they only way the peaceful Mexican people of northern Mexico will ever have peace is if the American military provides it for them. All of this sounded really strange coming from a "Mexican." He is a good man, close friend, and has put a lot of thought into this idea. We need to slow down and think about our southern neighbors and what they are going through right now. They are living in a nightmare.

Yes we need Rangers on the border. The 75th AB Rangers is what is needed. Civilian Law Enforcement will never be able to control our border with Mexico. The military needs to be brought in now. As we all know Washington doesn't have the balls to do what needs to be done.

Shotgun Perry, tomorrow he will be back trying to sell the Texas highway system to someone with a towel around his head.

Well, the north-east liberals can have Poppy back, but I think I'll hold on to Dubya. He was raised here, and is a Texan, in my book (even if he is something of a RINO on some things).

At least the man has proven beyond a shadow of doubt that he loves this country, down to his bones. That's enough for me.

Any players our guys, if deployed, take out will be happily replaced by other poor mexicans.

We’ve tried to take industry down there (maquiladoras) and that winds up in kidnapping managers and theft.

We need to say: there will be no IH-35 trafficking anymore. We’ll accidentally shoot first and answer IA questions later.

Tell them they can sail their drugs up to Oregon and Washington to satisfy the Canadian/upper states’ demand for drugs. Gerrymander the RAT districts along I-35 to break up the Congressional political co-operation with these thugs.

Ill have to check him out. From what little I know I like him better than romney or huck. Being a governor from texas can only help him. So I don’t agree with you.

Oh, I agree. Perry is 1,000% better than Romney or Huck, but he's no conservative. Perhaps you'd have to be a resident of Texas to know that. Plenty of Texas Freepers will tell you the same thing about him.

Being a governor from texas can only help him.

Not a chance.

The US has had three presidents from Texas in the last 50 years, and one "cowboy" from California during that same period. Dubya held the office for most of the first decade of the 21st century, and the left never let us forget it for a single day of his presidency.

Part of the reason that Obama was elected, had to do with the fact that the country was ready for a "change" from the eight years of Bush.

The people are simply NOT going to turn around after a break of only four years and elect another Texas Governor to the presidency. It just ain't gonna happen.

They will if they want their own state to model Texas’ achievements.

The RAT’s war fatigue drumbeat is no longer resonating, as it is no longer mentioned.

Not that I love Perry, and Texas ain’t all as free as a lot of people think, but every state would benefit from adopting our business climate, no-union stance and constitutionally mandated balanced-budget.

The Mexicans have had every opportunity to take care of themselves. They choose to stay poor and ignorant. I don’t want my son to die for a Mexican. He already fought for Islamists. My husband fought for Viet Nam. My dad for Korea. Granpa died in the Civil War. I could go on but surely you get my drift?

Well, it's no longer mentioned because their boy is now in charge of the war. Funny how all that anti-war crap quieted right down, as soon as the Marxist was in office, isn't it?

Not that I love Perry, and Texas ain’t all as free as a lot of people think, but every state would benefit from adopting our business climate, no-union stance and constitutionally mandated balanced-budget.

You got that right.

The Texas success story is amazing by any objective measure. No other state can match Texas for positive, pro-growth statistics. It's the number one destination of choice for US businesses who are looking to relocate. Three of the top five fastest growing counties in the US have been in Texas, over the last ten years, and the so-called Texaplex is forecast to be the fastest growth area of the country over the next ten years.

I could go on, but I'm a Texan. We're not given to bragging .. LOL
