LONDON – Prince Charles has reopened a sensitive debate in Britain by suggesting his wife Camilla may take the title of queen when he becomes monarch. The comments came in an interview with U.S. network NBC recorded in August and due to be broadcast later Friday.
Extracts were aired on British television and received high attention in the week Charles' son Prince William — who is second in line to the throne — announced his engagement to Kate Middleton.
Camilla legally will be queen if Charles takes the throne, but when the couple married in 2005 officials said she planned to adopt the title Princess Consort rather than the more traditional Queen Consort.

If Charles is going to be King, then she should be Queen. They are legally married. What is the big deal.

This is nothing new - those who understand the system have been saying this since they married.
Camilla is the Princess of Wales right now - she is simply not using the title, but is instead using the title of Duchess of Cornwall, based on the fact her husband’s second title (he has a lot more) is Duke of Cornwall. This was done out of respect of the special place, Diana, Princes of Wales holds in the minds and hearts of Britain and the Commonwealth. But it’s a courtesy - not a fact.
When Charles becomes King, Camilla becomes Queen. She may or may not use the title, but if by the time it happens, the British people have no problem with it (and she does become more and more popular every year), there will be no reason for her not to do so.
This isn’t new - it simply reflects Camilla is now seen quite differently than she used to be as people see her, more or more, performing her royal duties with dignity and respect.
And so he’s planning to push mom down the stairs?

Divorcing Diana & then marrying Camilla pretty much killed his chance to be King. The King or Queen of England is also the head of the Church of England. Charles actions are not now, nor were they in line with Church teachings.

No, actually she can't - the Queen cannot alter the succession. She wouldn't anyway - Charles is quite a bit different from the way the media portrays him. He'll be perfectly competent as King - and until has a lot more life experience, probably a lot more competent.
I'm not sure if you're old enough to remember, but back in the 1970s, Charles was the dashing young military helicopter pilot who all the girls adored.
IIRC, Queen Elizabeth said “no way in h3ll” after Charlie divorced Princess Diana. Has something changed??

You know, he is actually a committed member of the Church of England. I’ve never been able to work out exactly how devout he is, but that is the only religious group he has any actual affiliation with.
I really wonder why when it comes to the Prince, so many people on FreeRepublic seem to forget that the media lies about political figures they don’t like all the time and you can’t trust their spin.
I had the impression that Charles was a queen, at least that’s what I thought I saw on the cover of one of those gossip magazines in the checkout line at Stop & Shop earlier this week. Something about some unpleasantness concerning Charles’ gay lover not being invited to William and Kate’s wedding.
Maybe Charles plans to be both king and queen.

Well, the Prince does believe in climate change. He also believes in gun rights, a strong military, honouring veterans, people actually being expected to love a country they choose to live in, preserving his nations heritage - lots of other things. Most of these don't get that much spin in the media however, because they don't fit the image the left wing media likes to spread.
Conservatives never get good press. They always try to make them look like fools. For some reason, when it comes to the Prince, so many people who are normally sceptical, believe it.
