Raleigh, N.C. Republican Renee Ellmers has unseated veteran Congressman Bob Etheridge, according to unofficial results of a recount in the tight race.
Etheridge, a seven-term Democrat, picked up six votes on Ellmers after voting results from 10 counties were tabulated a second time, but it was nowhere near enough to overcome her 1,489-vote lead following the Nov. 2 election.
The State Board of Elections still must audit the results and will meet next Tuesday to certify the results of all elections statewide.
2010 North Carolina General Election Results Etheridge requested a recount after Ellmers led him by less than 1 percent of the 189,800 ballots cast in the Second Congressional District.

BYE! Couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. At least now he doesn’t have to be bothered by people wanting an interview with a congressman.
Does anyone know yet what the total count is now in the house? How many total seats did we actually pick up with these recounts done? It must be close to a net 65.
This is in the TOP THREE of the SWEETEST victories !!!
This guy is a total A$$HOLE. Electoral defeat is the least of what HE deserves.
What a jerk.
I woke up in a Soho doorway
A policeman knew my name
He said "You can go sleep at home tonight
If you can get up and walk away"
...
Well, who are you? (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
I really wanna know (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
Tell me, who are you? (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
'Cause I really wanna know (Who are you? Who, who, who, who?)
And, as frosting on the cake, NC has a new GOP seat in the US House.
I bleive this is +62 with 3 races remaining in which the GOP leads, 2 in which they are behind.
Most experts are saying net +64 or +65.
As of last night, 60 with six outstanding, leading in four of those six.
Man, I don’t need to read about six vote pickups during recounts. I’m currently sweating out a local race with a thirty vote margin that has every chance of ending up in single digits. 1700 votes to go. Well... won’t have to clip my nails for a while.
Thanks for the info. It seems that no major news outlet is keeping track of this. Fox should update their interactive map when this stuff is called for one side or the other.
Good riddance to that pompous ass.One less idiot in the Congress.
Thanks, it looks like one site is keeping up with the latest calls in races.
Buerkle will be +63.
If Altschuler wins (not likely at this point), he will be +64.
+65 is not possible at this point.
3 pm concession announcement expected

>>Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-N.C.) is expected to concede this afternoon after results from a completed recount are likely to show he didn’t make up any significant ground in his race against Rep.-elect Renee Ellmers (R), according to campaign sources.
Etheridge has scheduled a 3 p.m. press conference to make the statement.
This will be GREAT — WHEN I actually SEE and HEAR the NC Election Commission certify it. Until then, I WILL NOT believe. I was born and raised in NC, and I KNOW North Carolina Democrats. It ain’t over yet.
I certainly HOPE (and have confidence it will be) Rene Ellmers — this is my Mom & Dad’s district, and they never thought even on the day of the election they were gonna get rid of the crook Etheridge! :-)
“Etheridge has scheduled a 3 p.m. press conference to make the statement.”
And the statement will begin with Etheridge saying “Who are you? WHO are YOU!?”
Thought this might brighten your day.
