Republican Renee Ellmers has unseated veteran Congressman Bob Etheridge, according to unofficial results of a recount in the tight race.
Etheridge, a seven-term Democrat, picked up six votes on Ellmers after voting results from 10 counties were tabulated a second time, but it was nowhere near enough to overcome her 1,489-vote lead following the Nov. 2 election.

Thanks. I almost forgot about their less than glorious past.
No that can't be. Sarah Palin caused the loss of so many seats...can't you read? She's is nothing but a detriment to the Republican party. /s (heavy)
North Carolina arguably has the most egregious gerrymandering in the country. This is going to change very soon. Republicans won control of both the NC house and senate for the first time in 112 years.
That was the center-piece of her campaign. I have to admit, hearing her claim to be a pro-life conservative RN seemed at first something like an oxymoron. Back in CA, the nurses’ union is a front for the Marxist wing of the Democratic Party (and I knew a bunch of the worst ones personally). But the more I saw her speak and act, the clearer it became: she’s the real thing, being a nurse is and should be a strong incentive to being pro-life and conservative and I pray she will stand with her fellow freshmen to hold the party leaders’ feet to these issues.
He's one of those types who you can tell is a big-time drinker just by looking at him.
Yep, she used FaceBook, twitter and a constant round of local meet-and-greets to win this. It’s actually the Michelle Bachmann system, and she implemented it like she’d been doing it for years.
Thanks for posting this, Beleg!
I was going to but got busy at work. Outstanding news!
I called his Raleigh office and played the “Who are you?” remix over the phone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hkpSNp-Zbc
They hung up on me. Hahaha!
An 8-term incumbent couldn’t even win in his own gerrymandered district. That shows you how pissed off the public is.
The few speeches I have heard....the first thing which came to mind....’this is not a politician’--a real breath of fresh air....
She should be grounded in her principles well enough so the monstrosity we call ‘DC’ won't corrupt her.
Ain’t it great, CD? You gotta know Alia is woo-hooing for us. :)
“How does a drunken heap of monkey spunk like Etheridge win seven times in a generally Red State like NC? “
Funny you should ask...a number of other inquiring minds would like to know exactly how it is such a red state seems to vote so blue!!

We the People need to start double time investigating this before another election cycle rolls by!!
Well, maybe he can get a job with the TSA. He certainly has the right experience for the job.
God willing, you will be right. I would be happy if she manages as much as four terms and stays upright. As I suggested above, I think the Washington temptations are monumental, the constant whispering to 'be nuanced and show maturity' so insistent and persuasive that even the most determined folks can lose their bearings over time. Doesn't always happen, but look at Cornyn and Kyl, didn't we use to think they were rock-ribbed and guaranteed for the life of the watch?
gerry mandering for NC12 is even a bigger joke:
http://www.govtrack.us/congress/findyourreps.xpd?state=NC&district=12
....even the more ‘square’ districts in NC are very carefully gerrymandered. The democrats win 55 to 45 in many districts. The Republicans win 78 to 22 in a few districts. A reasonable estimate -- Republicans will pick up 5 to 8 U.S. house seats when NC house districts are redrawn.
HA! I can’t believe it was even a close race for Mr. Who are you. Who in the hell votes for people like him, Barney Frank, Rangel, etc.
Well done, Renee!!
