Video posted on the CBS Los Angeles website shows an object flying through the evening sky Monday that left a large contrail, or vapor trail. While cruising the skies Monday at sunset, Sky2 captured on video what appears to be a missile making its way up into the sky from over the Pacific Ocean off the California coast.
Pentagon officials were stumped by the event. Nobody within the Department of Defense that weve reached out to has been able to explain what this contrail is, where it came from, Pentagon spokesman Col. Dave Lapan said.

My graphical description at how I arrived at these positions will be posted downthread.
Notice that CBS' video presented then (with interruptions) in nearly reverse order. Why?

Now we have to figure what to call it and how to describe it:
"Rathergate" was "Fake -- but Accurate"
If this is "Videogate", "Missilegate" or "Contrailgate". -- is it "Real -- but 'Inaccurate'"?
(Need help choosing that last word...) ;-)
Good job. I wonder what it will take to get KCBS to release the *real* raw video?
Wow! Just...WOW!!
BTW, have you noticed that the "missleers" from the "General Mc" thread are -- so far -- "conspicuous by their absence" here...? '-)
I’ve seen aircraft contrails all my life. My best friend was in the military for years — he expressed no doubt that this was no aircraft — though he thought it was one of our fired covertly. I, on the other hand, believe it very possibly could have been the ChiComs.
One thing is certain after viewing the video several times. This was NO aircraft. An airctaft does not rise in that way, leave a trail in that way, nor have “fire” belching from it back end that way.

I got that email from Brian this morning also. I missed the last Vandenberg launch on November 5th, but watched the two previous launches — looking forward to the next one on December 6th.

What would it take to get them to release the whole shoot? Calls to the news producer?
Red fire?
It was determined that the plume/contrail in all clips visually intersected with the unique bifurcated section of the "upper" illuminated cirrus cloud crossing the fielld of view. That region, which is obvious in frames 3 & 4, is indicated by the rectangle in the above frame.
The position of the plume endpoint in each frame is detemined by its distance from and position rlative to the crossing.
Note that in frame 5, (shown firat and repeatd) the endpoint (even at wide zoom level) is far beyond (after) the crossing.
I saw one the other day from a Chinese sub that must have been lurking in the Ohio River.
This is another case of "Operation Chaos" in reverse.
Thank you for all your work on this. You clearly show what always annoyed me about the “raw” footage from the git-go. That it was a confusing splicing that, frankly, confused more than even the stills did. That was one of my first red flags: The raw footage was not raw footage.
BTW, if you look at the frame in your original post, or the ones with the large 4 on them in your frame shots, you will notice that the shadow from the contrail projected onto the lower cloud layer shows that they are parallel to one another. It is one of the things I noticed in the “raw” video that convinced me it is an aircraft contrail. I see that sort of thing all the time.
This is the part that is bugging me, but I can't put my finger on it with images.
What would the shadow and light of the contrail from a plane look like when it flies parallel to the ground, vs. what would the shadow and light of the contrail from a missile look like when it flies perpendicular to the ground?
Different surfaces of the contrail would reflect the setting sun. If the object were moving parallel to the east, I would expect to see the contrail darken as the airplane moved away from the setting sun and into the shadow of the earth. If the object were climbing perpendicular straight up, I would expect to see the contrail stay lit, or even brighten, as the missile climbs back into more direct sunlight. Also, look how dark the cloud in the foreground is, showing where shadow has already reached.
Thoughts?

And don’t forget that another CBS affiliate tried the same thing a few days later on the east coast with the “orange trail” traveling at “high speed”. It looked that way because of the motion of the helicopter.
It honestly pissed me off that so many here were going for the missile bait, even after overwhelming evidence was presented. I cannot remember the last time I felt that way (if ever) on this site. I think it is a first.
When I see this sort of lunacy on liberal sites I just think it is funny.
