PIERRE, S.D. (KTIV) - Saying "voters want change", South Dakota State senator-elect Eldon Nygaard, of Vermillion, has made a change, too. He's now a Republican.
Nygaard served in the South Dakota House from 2006 to 2010 as a Democrat.
But, in a statement, Nygaard said he believes he can better-serve his constituents in Pierre as a Republican. "I firmly believe that I can represent my District's needs in Pierre more effectively as a member of the Republican Party. My past four years in the House have been marked by a bi-partisan approach to working for my district and the people of South Dakota."
Nygaard says he will continue to reach across the aisle to find solutions for his district.
Nygaard joins a state Senate with 29 other Republicans, and only 5 Democrats.
30 Republicans
5 Democrats
30 Republicans 5 Democrats
a good start...
“Voters want change.”
That’s a pretty smooth way of saying,”I want to keep my job.”
Any representative in any legislative body who has a serious interest in doing “constituent service” should always caucus with the MAJORITY PARTY if at all possible.
I think you mean:
29 Republicans
5 Democrats
and one 1 Gutless, cowardly, morally bankrupt, scum-sucking leech, traitorous piece of pig-sh*t Politician who has no place in the SD Legislature.
This bottom-feeding piece of filth lied to his constituents, and now wants nothing more than to be on the ‘winning side’.
They are sub-human when a Republican switches sides - and the same goes when a RAT jumps ship. No respect for this animal at all.
I wonder if the GOP is recruiting dems to try to keep conservatives out in oh-12.
Yeah but they want changed people not the same people with changed labels, ya jackwagon!
PS. Why would they name a city, Pete, South Dakota? Is there a Doug, West Virginia?
That’s a nice story, but just like the rest of the folks in office, I will wait to see them back up their rhetoric with votes for smaller government, like Americans overwhelmingly want.
We’ve all seen what damage a “Republican In Name Only” can cause.
As goes Eldon Nygaard, so goes the nation!
I'm sick of all this "reach across the aisle" crap. Unless, of course, he's reaching across to b**ch slap the 'Rats...then it's okay.
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
Agreed. Take them any way we can!
But is he now a conservative or a progressive republican? Wonder what the folks who voted for him think?
Unless the ND Senate has a large population of RINOs it is hard to imagine how this one flipper is going to do much damage when the Senate is devided 30 to 5 in the Republican favor.
Nygaard would have to get 10 other Republicans to join him to swing a vote against the Republican majority.
All I see here is a center left Democrat who does not want to be in the minority.
Unless they make Nygaard a committee chairman I dont see how he can make much trouble. And considering the size of their majority I cant imagine why they would have made that kind of deal with him to get him to flip.
Nygaard joins a state Senate with 29 other Republicans, and only 5 Democrats.
Wow! Changes parties like changes socks! Love them Dems!
...and therein lies the problem, a senate full of RINO Republicans. According to my ex senator, there aren’t five real conservatives in the entire Legialature. I believe him.
Most all believe in Government handouts, instead of going it alone. Just heard my leftist, US Senator express his regrets that we are attempting to get rid of earmarks, “it’s bad for South Dakota and States like her”, meaning small and receiving more from Government than they give.
When Uncle is broke, then what?
Well, he is from Vermillon, the home of the University of South Dakota. He probably realizes he needs to be a Republican to help fund the university.
Please identify your ex-senator. As a South Dakotan, I say he/she is full of BS.
I don’t know the guy but on the surface it sounds like he’s kissing up to the winning team. Just another RAT scurrying off the sinking ship.
