WASHINGTON D.C. (KMOX) - Earmark reform has been a lonely fight for a long time, says U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill (D-Missouri).

So, she reacted with pleasure when hearing President Obama say this, in his weekly media address, “As we work to reform our budget, Congress should also put some skin in the game. I agree with those Republican and Democratic members of Congress who’ve recently said that in these challenging days, we cannot afford what are called earmarks.”

McCaskill says it’s encouraging to have others taking the issue of earmark reform seriously.

She anticipates being the only Democrat in the U.S. Senate opposing earmarks when the new year begins.

McCaskill says she’s a believer that tax dollars should not be doled out based on politics or secret deals.

Amazing Obama and his partners in crime are getting to the RIGHT of the senators that are whining about earmarks...Expecting all the posts from those staffers that will try to explain how complex earmarks are and we need to keep them.

Of course he wants earmarks cut. It gives him more money for his Union pals.

With “stimulus” spending and bailouts, Obama has complete authority over money being funneled to his supporters and cuts Congress entirely out of the loop.

Big deal. It’s only 1 percent of the whole budget.

He’s said this before...and lied when he said it.

The president’s a real tower of jello.

Who respects this guy besides what’s left of his staff?

McCaskill can see November 2012 from her front porch.

Mitch McConnell just stated on the floor of the Senate that he would lead a moratorium on earmarks. Sounds like he responded to Obama and McCaskell—not the people that elected a Republican majority in the House. Oh, well. We’ll take it.

He's attempting to co-op the issue....

While I agree with you...it's a small part of the budget...It does represent a big part of the problem. Earmarks are given as "bribes" to get pols to vote for BIG, BIG, BIG...bills.

Sen. Coburn makes a great case against earmarks....and I agree with him.

My point would be this.....let's see the Pubbies take a stand in total opposition to earmarks. And let the Dims whine and whirl.......

I don’t believe that most Americans even know what an “earmark” or “pork” is. That being said, it’s safe for the kenyan to squeal about ending them, because when he reenacts them or allows them nobody cares. If most people don’t know that Marxism is bad, what makes anyone think they know WTH an earmark is?

It's good to see someone who is able to cut through the 'crap' and see things for what they really are.

The rest of your post: spot on

The government can't afford to spend money it doesn't have! Period! "Earmarks" is a diversionary tactic, a symptom treatment, get to the root cause if you want a root cause cure. Don't borrow what you can't repay, don't spend what you don't have. If you have debt you are not paying down there are two choices; cut spending, and increase revenue. But remember government revenue is a drag on the economic engine, there is a cost to the government increasing revenue, so cutting spending is the only real root cause cure.

I don't think anyone in the government has the "skin" to cut spending like it should be cut, there needs to be a scorched earth retreat from government spending - something like this;

Stimulus by Spending Cuts: Government cuts spending 50%! If not the American Dream is burnt toast.

Right on.

We all remember how mccaskill went on TV and railed against osamaobama when he bribed Nelson and Landrieu during the obamacare buyout.

Here is the link to the mccaskill rant ________________________.

Oh, you telling me the link doesn't work?
