In-state tuition for illegal immigrants is preserved with California Supreme Court ruling [Updated]
LA Times ^ | 15 NOV 2010 | Maura Dolan

The California Supreme Court decided unanimously Monday that illegal immigrants may continue to be eligible for in-state tuition rates at the state's colleges and universities rather than pay the higher rates charged to those who live out of state.

In a ruling written by Justice Ming W. Chin, one of the panel's more conservative members, the state high court said a California law that guarantees the lower tuition for students who attend California high schools for at least three years and graduate does not conflict with a federal prohibition on giving illegal immigrants educational benefits based on residency.

California is one of several states that permit illegal immigrants to take advantage of lower college tuition for students who attend high school and graduate in state. About 25,000 illegal immigrants are estimated to receive in-state tuition rates in California.

It doesn't boggle the mind at all if you realize that illegals are already the majority in California. And Illegals vote democrat as the elections there showed.

So if we all want to be like California or even worse then keep letting illegals in to the U.S.

If this doesn't put it into people's heads that stopping illegal immigration has to be the number one priority and issue then the U.S. is doomed. If we don't deport all illegals NOW all the U.S.A will be to the left of California soon.

We all have to concentrate on one thing at a time. And this is the thing we have to solve first. And Tancredo is the only one saying this.

“I am now boycotting anything from California.”

If that is the case, you should also boycott anything from Texas as Texas has the exact same law regarding In-State Tuition for illegal aliens.

Being a citizen earns you LESS THAN zip. YOU have to pay federal and state taxes. They don’t.

Could you please provide a source that states that the majority of the people in California are illegal aliens?

You are correct. No more Texas Ruby Red Grapefruit for me. What in the heck has Rick Perry been doing?

Number of illegal immigrants getting in-state tuition for Texas colleges rises

Unbelievable. Oh, but the state is broke and is overdue on debt backpayments to the federal treasury??

Look out for Rick Perry. He can talk the Tea Party Line, but he signs bills that grant in-state tuition to illegal aliens, forces adults in the back seat of cars to wear seat belts, bans tanning for teenagers, mandates steroid testing for high school athletes and attempted to pass legislation that would force 12 year old girls to be vaccinated against an STD.

And now Rick is looking to run for president.

*California just boggles the mind on everything they do. ILLEGALS should not be allowed in schools or colleges AT ALL*

I sure agree with you!. With new Gov Jerry Brown telling all the illegals, that it doesn’t matter if you are legal or illegal, the state will pay for their college educations.
What I want to know is, where are the billions to do this going to come from? The state is now $19 billion in the red.

And you should, along with everyone else who doesn't live in this bass-ackwards state...

Sneak across the border (with Oregon, Nevada, NM, etc.), and study for below minimum wage.

I’ve said the same thing many times myself. Still, what do you do with those kids when the Fed/Gov refuses to send their mom and dad back to their nation of origin?

We’re screwed blued and tattooed. So are other states BTW. The offspring of illegal aliens are flooding schools nationwide.

Nobody is standing up to the federal government and telling it to get stuffed.

They do not want to know, or they find if much more easy to rag on Democrats in California, than they do Republicans in Texas for passing the exact same law.

I think they call that Cognitive Dissonance.

CA will will be a liability to the rest of the US in many areas. We all pay the price for their policies and open border agenda.

Ya' know you're painting with a pretty broad brush there, pard. There still are a lot of us conservative types here in CA, including Jim Thompson and FR.

"I would challenge this law by saying I am an Illegal Alien from Pennsylvania."

Actually, you raise a good question, facetious or not. I have not yet seen the entire opinion published online. But, it will be interesting to see if the opinion carves out any residency requirements for the illegals. If it doesn't, I'm not sure how they could deny your posited scenario.
