Flippin’ embarrassing? You betcha!
Boston Herald ^ | 11/15/10 | Jennifer C. Braceras

Sarah Palin has officially “jumped the shark.”

Last night’s premier of “Sarah Palin’s Alaska” will be remembered as the moment the once-promising, conservative darling crossed over into the absurd.

Part Alaska tourism promo, part window into the family Palin, TLC’s eight-part series features clips of the former governor at home in gym shorts and shots of the family enjoying the great outdoors while she calls out folksy comments like, “this is flippin’ fun!”

If that’s not enough, Palin takes Kate Gosselin (of “Jon & Kate Plus 8” fame) camping in the Alaska wilderness - the two women reportedly didn’t get along (Kate, it seems, is a bit of an indoor cat).

Conduct unbecoming a former governor and vice presidential

Empty?

I would say it is quite well filled out.

I was a Reagan campaign staffer in 1980...you’re memory of Reagan has faded.

Your mistaken. Like they say back home on the range, the first Bee Esser doesn't stand a chance.

I knew Ronald Reagan, Ronald Reagan was a friend of mine.

To no avail, I worked trying to get him to wear Levis instead of jodhpurs, even his horse was embarrassed. Sarah Palin is no Ronald Reagan.

You know why it is a good move. Because most people are not like us. They don't frequent political forums, listen to Rush, or watch Fox news. They like shows like Dancing with the Stars, or Kate and 8 (or whatever it is called). For the past two years, these people have had the media define Sarah.

Now, on this show, people can see her as she wants them to see her. 5,000,000 tuned in last night. What did they see? A wife and mother. They saw Sarah Palin without a liberal media filter. It will change people's perception about Palin to the positive. That is who that show is after. Without those who are more concerned about who will win Idol than Obama's spending, she can't win an election. She needs them and one of her needs is to change the perception they have of her.

If seeing her in shorts, or hearing her say "flipping" makes you reconsider your vote, then, perhaps, you weren't really sold on a Palin candidacy. (Not you, but rhetorical)

I really do wonder why so many of you people are SO upset about a television show invovling someone who has clearly changed the political landscape? Are you upset that you didn’t jump on board soon enough and now have to save face among your liberal friends by bashing her? If you don’t want to watch, don’t. But the anger and the excuses some of you are making are rather comical.

From where do you get "upset"? I haven't seen that. People are just discussing it because she's a possible presidential candidate, and that makes it relevant. I'm not upset by it, don't care who else watches it, and don't care about the ratings.

Look, I had really high hopes for Sarah! when she was nominated. I was hopeful that she might become the next Maggie Thatcher, who was derided by the elites as just a "shopkeeper's daughter" on her way up. THAT was a powerful, strong woman who advanced conservative principles through the sheer force of her iron will. I thought that Palin might just be the one to put those elites in their place with the force of her intellect and personality. And then....

Now maybe Margaret Thatcher is too high a standard to set for her (or anyone else), but I never expected Sarah! to morph into the pure populist she has become. She's now like Oprah! or someone else in pop culture recognized by first name only.

I'm disappointed, not angry or upset. It is critical to have candidates who are "one of us" in the sense that they share our values. I just think it takes more than that to be a seriously considered for the position of leader of the free world.

I worked for Reagan in 1980... how many times was he attacked (even in 1976) for being nothing more than an actor. Not even a good one.

Your memory and mine are pretty much the same.

The naysayers on FR have been out in force since Bristol decided to go on the show. Why shouldn’t she? I hope she wins the whole thing. It’s nothing but a popularity contest anyway. So, dance Bristol and win!

I was disappointed in the show.

I like SP and think she is a valuable member of our team. But the show was a let down.

PS- I just don’t care for reality shows. I though this show was going to be more serious. And I don’t think the show will help her politically.

Dove Foundation awards “5-out-of-5 Family Approved Seal for all ages”; SarahPalin’s AK is positive, uplifting family outdoor adventure.

Review by Dick Rolfe, CEO

“Sarah Palin’s Alaska” is chock full of the stunning, majestic landscapes at Denali Park and Mount McKinley, the highest mountain peak in North America. Nature’s beauty can also present dangerous challenges like angry momma bears and 100 ft deep ice crevices that could swallow up a careless climber.

This rugged backdrop offers some insights as to how Sarah and Todd Palin acquired the skills to overcome some of their own personal adversities; from the birth of their special needs child, Trigg to the cruel jabs leveled at them by political opponents and media pundits.

Sarah Palin’s AlaskaSarah is seen as a typical mother with all the challenges of a parent with children from ages 2 to 18. Her husband and help-mate, Todd is not shy or quiet as he is often portrayed. Calm and secure are more appropriate adjectives that describe him. His calming demeanor helps keep the family on task and on track.

TV sportcaster was Sarah Palin's career before she entered politics. Just so you know.

I'm totally fine with that, and could care less. My point is that having a TV show that is not politically substantive less than two years before the election does not seem like a great way for a relative political who could use more schooling on the issues spending her time. Reagan did not make "Bedtime for Bonzo's Grandson" in between the '76 and '80 campaigns.

And by the way, you're wrong about her series, which is not surprising either, since you admit you did not watch it.

Exactly what did I say about her series that was wrong? That it involved her family? That it showed her family doing routine things in their home? The previews showed those scenes, so I assumed they'd be in the show. If that didn't happen, I'd admit to being wrong.

she is so willing to align herself with liberal trash tells me all I need to know about Palin.

Palin is one of the foremost forces in the country working to expose the tactics of the liberal/Dem/MSM axis.

What are you smoking??

I give John Sears some of the credit for the things that went right for Reagan up until Sears was fired at the time of New Hampshire. But still the demise of Sears was great for the campaign. After that optimism prevailed.

I do not know who the Sears, Ed Meese, William Casey, etc are with Palin but I hope she has some good ones.
