Should the U.S. Crack Down on Happy Meals?
Time Magazine ^ | 11/10/2010 | Josh Ozersky

Last week's elections may have seemed like a repudiation of liberalism, but the San Francisco board of supervisors appeared unfazed. The city's governing body went ahead and fired a bunker buster into the Happy Meal, decreeing that restaurants cannot put free toys in meals that exceed set thresholds for calories, sugar or fat. Libertarians are livid, parents are peeved and even advocates of healthier fast food think the ban will be counterproductive.

I’m just damned glad that Happy Meals are our most pressing issue.

No, the U.S. should not, as it’s not a Constitutionally-authorized function. However, if the CA State Government wanna do it, more power to them.

Residents of Cali, behold what thou hath voted for!

I say that we should all send the San Francisco board of supervisors a Happy Meal toy!

They will hand out free needles to heroin addicts, and free condoms to your teenagers, but will not let a little toy be given with a hamburger?

I would love to see McDonalds perform an end around the wingbats on the San Fransico board that came up with this stupid idea. Here’s my suggestion:

If a Happy Meal is sold and comes with a free toy....
I think McD’s should give away a FREE MEAL with the Purchase of the Toy. May be semantics but doesn’t the SF “law” say no free toys...it doesn’t mention no free meals!!

San Francisco’s form of nanny-state liberalism will soon be coming to a leftist Democrat run rat hole city near you soon!

I could see soup Nazi Bloomberg in New York following the loony left coast wave and banning Happy Meals in NYC next. He’s already banned smoking from just about anywhere and everywhere, banned trans fats and now is after soups and salt.

But it’s for the children, you know. It’s always for the children and our own good. We’re to stupid to make our own decisions. Papa government knows best. NOT!

What a bunch of liberal buffoonery. They think we can’t take care of our own kids. They think we can’t take care of ourselves, but they can’t even balance a budget or efficiently provide services. Are you kidding me?

Although he didn’t address the issue directly in the article, it’s clear from the title that what the author is proposing is that the federal government step in and take control over what private business may offer the public in the way of meals.

Why? It seems that he was a “fat” kid, and now as an adult, he wants the *FEDERAL GOVERNMENT* to fix the problem of “fat” kids. What he really needs is therapy and a swift kick in the pants, which it appears his parents failed in their responsibility to do when he was a child.

BINGO!

Liberals who claim that we Conservatives should "stay out of the bedroom" when we voice concerns over abortion fall into this category also. We aren't supposed to get between a woman and her "doctor," when it comes to "reproductive choice;" but now under Obamacare, our doctors will have to check with the bureaucrats before implementing a protocol on a patient.

Effing Morons!

The crackdown should be on liberals.

Find and identify them, seek them out, capture them, incarcerate them...and let them be the “wives” whilst they are in prison.

Well, sure!

Happy Meals are a heck of a lot easier to crack down on than say, oh, the Mexican cival war cum drug war on our border.

Why not? After all, the LameStreamMedia and the PTB don’t want a REAL problem in the news.

The San Francisco problem can be solved by a massive earth quake. That place is simply not required

By all means crack down on happy meals. The cocaine dealers have been swept from the streets, unemployed are now all working, the illegal immigrants have been sent back home, and the last terrorist has been shot in his bed. What else has the nation to do except get out of this bad depression. Take 1/2 of the police force and station them in Mc Donalds so you won’t have to lay them off. /s

It SHOULD be the parents’ decision. Of course, our government has been advocating AGAINST healthy families for a loooong time. The unintended consequences of government programs which actually hurt families increased significantly under President Johnson’s “GREAT” Society push.....and have continued ever since.
