Minutes after Naomi Watts, movie star, arrived at the CIAs secret Virginia training center called The Farm, she was thrown to the ground in a way that left bruises.
When she cried out in pain, her instructor glared and informed her, Dont say 'ow again unless you need to go to the hospital.
During the days that followed, she was stripped of everything that cloaked her in specialness, said director Doug Liman.
The actress chose the rough treatment, Liman said.
He chose Watts to play Valerie Plame Wilson, the spy who was outed in one of the most controversial episodes of the Bush era. Plames husband, Joe Wilson, wrote a New York Times opinion piece critical of the war in Iraq. Plames identity was revealed shortly after, prompting accusations of retaliation.

I wouldn't expect this particular movie to offer much in the way of verisimilitude.
Instead, I'd expect more in the way of glaring omissions and bald lies.
The drama is Tony Kushner's Angels in America, which won the Pulitzer Prize.
Right! That is one of my disappointments about G.W. That Fitzgerald knew before grand jury hearings that Libby was not the leaker, but went ahead with show trials and press releases and convicted Libby while G.W. didn't lift a hand will color Bush 43, no matter how well he pitches (only meaningful to those who saw the perfect strike he threw, without warming up, at the World Series). That Fitz still has a job says that our U.S. attorneys, some, maybe all, are muscle for the mob. If we had a justice system in our Politburo, he would be. To knowingly prosecute an innocent man means they'll have no compunction about doing whatever they want to us.
There should be a movie about Rezko too, with popular rappers talking about “Change” outside the projects, while Valerie Jarrett, in flowing belly dance costumes passes out sweets to the deprived youngsters.
Has it always been this dirty? One of these guys goes to jail and his friends see that he is on the street with nary a word.
Wilson is old left. He grew up alternating between the mime troupe, SDS, and surfing. Pretend fantasies are his life. This was pure political agitprop. The left of the 70s never thought about the cost to shop owners when, completely ignorant about their causes, they went out to raise hell. They are middle aged now and don't care any more about ruining people's lives, knowing little more about the issues than that to belong to the party of the beautiful communists like Fonda, they need to be good soldiers.
That is a name we wont be hearing in that movie, so my guess is no one.
Actually, Joe Wilson ruined his own life...and his wife’s career by ratting her out in that NYT Oped...all to run a political hit on Dick Cheney.
He started the entire fiasco, and it spiraled out of control.
If she had not held him responsible, logic says the marriage would not have suffered on such a personal level.
What a laugh. This movie is a fake. Plame was not a spy.
I hope they inform the viewer the movie is all lies and not based on actual events except the lies.
Zackly. This whole article is a steaming pant-load. I’ll bet Watts was never thrown to the ground, bruised, glared at, or roughly-spoken to by anyone but her cabana boy. As for Wilson: “...ruined my espionage career.” *Snort!* The world now knows she was a desk-jockey. Some cover.
Holy cow. I’ve heard of thinly disguised advertising on Wikipedia but the “Valerie Plame” entry takes the cake.
Her biggest secret? Throwing her first husband over for that international man-of-mystery Joseph Wilson. I did not know that.
Or that Wilson was sent to Iraq by Bush Sr. as a way of deliberately insulting Saddam Hussein with a lowly diplomat rather than a full-fledged ambassador?
I like Naomi Watts but will not see this movie. It seems like it will be boring. Whatever you guys do don’t see Hereafter, it was also extremely BORING!!!!
Ditto. I'm going to not watch the hell out of this movie.
