First California. Now they're shooting at Queens!
Two days after a mysterious vapor trail appeared at sundown off the Los Angeles coast -- triggering fears of an enemy missile attack -- a stunning replay occurred in the sky over Far Rockaway.
A passer-by snapped a photo of a billowing streak yesterday afternoon at around 5 p.m.
Like Monday's scare on the West Coast, it looked like the exhaust from a just-launched missile.
What caused the contrail visible from the Rockaways also is not known.

Actually this one makes sense as a contrail.
Note that it is dissipating in its distal portion.
Note how intact it is near the aircraft.
Not how it is WIDER and more distinct as the aircraft approaches the camera.
Contrast the above with the pics from LA.
I don’t know what that was out in CA, but it was either the world’s oddest perspective on a contrail, or ... it was an exhaust plume.
I suspect the mystery CA launch was a U-2/TR-2 from NAS POINT MAGU or Moffett Field. They initially climb at a 45-60 degree angle to the horizon.
Left, then right, then middle?
Enlarge that a bit, and I’ll bet you could count the engines on that airplane.
Guess I’ll have to upgrade my graphic images.
The missile contrails are shown complete. The aircraft contrails are shown close in, so as to hide the "old" parts thyereof. It is comparing apple cores to apples ... it is fundamentally flawed, so badly so as to call into question the honesty of the person who put it together
I don’t care if it is contrails those nasty Chinese or Koreans shouldn’t be firing contrails at us either.
Was there a center fuel tank explosion up there anywhere?
Yea, and Forrest Gump shook hands with JFK. Please have some self-respect for your own credibility. I hate to see otherwise bright people dig in to a bad position. Not you specifically, but some FReepers have sold the missile theory so hard that no amount of evidence to the contrary will bring them back around to reality.
And if science proves this was a missile, I will be the first one to say I was wrong and will gladly take the ridicule.
That is a simple contrail. It dissipates fairly rapidly and is easily seen to be above the clouds on the horizon.
There used to be better sundowns in that location. The photochemical smog in Jersey must have lessened.
What bright people do is consider the possibilities. They don't discount those that disagree with them without proof.
So far there is none either way. What is there, is the common observation of contrails by anyone who ever looked into the sky. I have, and you probably have too, watched contrails being made by jets as they flew over. You have watched contrails drift and spread, and you have seen and watched contrails at different altitudes criss cross in different directions.
The California one was completely different. I saw the pictures and watched the online video. What I also see is the lack of credible explanation from anyone on the source.
I do consider optical illusions and so the one seen here from NY appeared unremarkable. The California one looked like a missile launch. It looks like launches both military and space shuttle type plumes.
Now no “science” is going to prove anything one way or another. There is nothing to test. It's gone. That's it. There is no evidence so far, so that is a strawman by you.
I'm not a conspiracy guy. But you don't point at a cow and call it a pig. As for my credibility, what you think of it really doesn't enter into it. I don't check on your approval any more than I expect you to ask for mine. I would hope, though, in the future you have more of an open mind.
The California one was a missile launch. Who did it, military, amateur on a boat, foreign power, whoever, is a question. Even Janes Miliatry editor for missiles and rockets called it a missile launch.Doung Richardson: “Its a solid propellant missile,” he told the Times. “You can tell from the efflux [smoke].”
So if there is credible indication it wasn't a missile launch, I'll consider it. All I've seen in the news is more smoke than the plume as people CYA.
Make your case ... or not.
Just don't whine and moan when folks don't find your case particularly convincing.
The MSM sure is trying to manufacture an “Oklahoma City type event” to try to save Teh Won.
