Tens of thousands of students took to the streets of London today in a demonstration that spiralled out of control when a fringe group of protesters hurled missiles at police and occupied the building housing Conservative party headquarters.
Tonight both ministers and protesters acknowledged that the demonstration by far the largest and most dramatic yet in response to the government's austerity measures was "just the beginning" of public anger over cuts. Police, meanwhile, were criticised for failing to anticipate the scale of the disorder.
An estimated 52,000 people, according to the National Union of Students, marched through central London to display their anger over government plans to increase tuition fees while cutting state funding for university teaching. A wing of the protest turned violent as around 200 people stormed 30 Millbank, the central London building that is home to Tory HQ, where police wielding batons clashed with a crowd hurling placard sticks, eggs and some bottles. Demonstrators shattered windows and waved anarchist flags from the roof of the building, while masked activists traded punches with police to chants of "Tory scum".

You’re darn right. Books and fees were more than the tuition at my son’s school this semester.
Hey, I agree with them. I think we should seriously "free education now" from the bonds of tyranny and the grapples of liberalism.
Lock and load!
Oh that's right, they can't anymore in Great Britain.
These 200 could be the same professional protesters who show up at lots of meetings around the world when a conservative is in office. Has anyone noticed that the violent protests in the US have just dried up for the past 2 years?
The taxpayers have been utterly shafted by the extremely well off for years, and generations, as a consequence, all the middle classes costs are going up dramatically, collective social costs their taxes have and could have covered many times over would be available, were it not for the massive bankster theft recently accomplished.
Like the SS theft in this country, the middle class has contributed massive amounts of money to guarantee some safety in old age - only to have the money be plundered by the disgusting politicians who promised a lock box of safety to the masses.
Absolutely.
And, of course, what you are describing is not banking per se, but the socialist version of banking, that is to say, central banking. Our central bank (the Federal Reserve) has one aim, despite the 1913 Federal Reserve Act. That aim is to ensure that its member banks privatize the profits and socialize the losses.
And that, at its core, is the definition of socialism: others pay the bill while a few profit either financially or by obtaining power.
Even worse, after getting “fisted” with the higher tuition, white guys can’t get hired afterwards, either. This situation will only turn around when whites start behaving like other “permanent underclass” populations, raping and killing people just out of sheer boredom...
US taxpayers may be in the streets if Congress drops the mortgage interest deduction, freezes SS COLAs indefinitely, and continues to distribute govt funds in corrupt projects.
When I was in college in the late 70’s, most students had junker cars, VW’s etc. When I walk through parking lots of our local state university, geez: hardly a vehicle over a few years old, many new trucks and SUV’s. I don’t know if their parents pay for them or what, but looks like the kids aren’t hurting these days - yet.
I think this is being led and provoked by Marxist-anarchists, meaning the same people bused in to our cities for anti-war protests and the like.
There’s no way to count, but I’d like to know how many real students are actually there as a percentage of the total. I’ll bet it’s well under 50%.
This is the same crap we just saw in France over increasing the retirement age to 62 from 60. Hired anarchists. I would not be at all surprised to learn that Soros funds these things.
I drove a 1986 Toyota Tercel until I graduated from college in 1996. I then sold it for $375 when I moved after school. By that point, the car had been literally totaled, it had the driver side door smashed in, and the bumper was destroyed by another accident that wasn’t my fault.
My wife and I still laugh about that car. That was what we needed to do at the time, and I would not trade it for anything.
Also, they are almost always doing Arts degrees. The set workload of BA subjects is nowhere near as high as that of their science, law or medicine equivalents.
I actually support government sponsorship of higher education for smart, deserving students, based on merit — BUT, you gotta pay back something to society for this. If you get govt largesse to become a doctor, you must spend a few years in public hospitals or in the countryside where there are few doctors. IF you study to be an engineer, you must work in the public works department for a low salary. If you want to be a lawyer, work the prosecution. If a business student, work in the IT or regulatory bodies. If a liberal arts student, work digging the roads :-P
“US taxpayers may be in the streets if Congress drops the mortgage interest deduction, freezes SS COLAs indefinitely, and continues to distribute govt funds in corrupt projects.”
We would hope so, but I’d wonder why this hasn’t already happened. We vent at the ballot box.
If one wants to "study" 3rd World cultures - move there.
There is nothing I would want to hire a "graduate" of these PC propaganda machines for - nothing.
The rest of the godless liberals who are nothing more than violent thugs should either be deported, or sent to 5 years hard labor.
There are no peaceful mobs.
AP reported today that there were "thousands" but did not give an exact number.
“If they eliminate the mortgage interest tax deduction, home values will plummet.”
If they eliminate the mortgage interest deduction, nobody would have any reason to tie themselves to an area for a 12 month lease, never mind a 30 year mortgage. The deductions are to stabilize a population that otherwise would be constantly shifting, following jobs and apparently avoiding black people all over the country...
