"Do something, DON'T go down with a sinking ship. You don't have a lot of time to protect your wealth. A lot of Americans...MOST Americans...are gonna be BANKRUPTED in this process..." Peter Schiff
Getting to $5,000 gold by June 2011

Schiff happens.
Seriously is there any way, at this late date, we can protect ourselves?

Same question I’m asking.
What the Schiff?!
Sure, own a business and raise your prices with inflation.
Buying silver is probably good protection.
Of course, these are protections against inflation, not against societal collapse.
I predict that temporary employment agencies are going to experience a BIG upswing. Not only do they allow businesses to avoid expensive commitments, but they also provide a conduit to allow employees to move between jobs as a means of increasing their compensation to stay up with inflation.
I’ve entered survival mode(ammo,liquor,trade-able items for the barter system) more than I’m worried about protecting what wealth I have.....not a fan of gold or silver because you can’t eat them during the collapse.
They are great for when the collapse has ended and a new currency emerges but the key to survival will be making it from TSHTF to stabilization of society. However, no one knows how long that might take....it could be years.
JMO...
Imagine you are in a small lifeboat in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, 1000 miles from land in shark infested waters, with 100 other people. That is you. Now imagine two guys draw guns and shoot a bunch of holes into the bottom of the lifeboat. That is the housing crash, the liquidy crisis, and the reaction by Bernanke and Obama. Get it now? It is not a question of if you sink, but when. That's the US economy. Can you do anything today to protect yourself? Sure. Buy a time machine.
Of course. Buy 2x all non-perishables on each weekly shopping trip. Spend more on food, cancel the cable-TV. If you live in a place where the social order is going to break down, consider moving. For instance in Portland it's obvious that the East Side (currently home to the black gang bangers, the latino gang bangers and the white methheads) will do far worse than the rest of the area. At minimum you could let your lease run out (if you are a renter) and move to the far end of the mass-transit system. This would also put you outside the city of Portland and County of Multnomah jurisdictions, another plus. (The county has twice approved a 2% county income surtax.) If you can't leavea house in a poorly situated city for job reasons consider renting a cheap place a day away, now, and spending weekends there to become a part of the community. If TSHTF you will be much better off in a trailer on a 5 acre lot on Yazoo, WA than in a condo in downtown Seattle. Remember humans have a short list of things we really need to survive: Food, Water, Shelter and Heat. Imagine "the government" can no longer provide those. Big city water system shut down. Power is off. Just-in-time delivery of foods has broken down and the supermarkets are empty. How long could you last in place? Being able to just stay where you are reading War and Peace for 90 days greatly lessens the chance you'll be harmed in a chaotic breakdown. The upper floors of a cement high-rise might be a reasonable place if you store enough water. Think about arson. Arson is a big problem with urban and sub-urban locations in times of breakdown.

I won’t tell you what you should do, but I will say what I have done and continue to do.
I have purchased gold and silver. Lots of it.
It is easy. There are great distributors that will accept a bank transfer and will ship you coins or bars at just over spot prices. There are also firms that allow you to purchase gold that they keep for you. I use BullionVAult, but there are others.
Many argue that this is not effective when TSHTF. I respectfully disagree. The crisis has been growing. It doesn’t happen instantaneously. Gold is so liquid that I can convert to cash and other necessities within hours. Then you can buy food, ammunition, etc.
This happens in stages IMHO. So, the first stage is to protect wealth.
Anyway. Do as you wish. I have and I am content with my choices.
Kindest Regards, sir
peter Schiff, explaining the obvious again?
Or just more BAD PREDICTIONS THAT DIDNT COME TRUE??
